Howard Dean for Vice President
Why not Howard Dean as the VP candidate? He has great progressive credentials, has proven leadership skills
and is able to cut through a lot of bullshit with concise answers to
questions.
The notion that we need another veteran or retired military
officer on a Democratic ticket is misguided at best. John Kerry had the
resume, but he was a mediocre campaigner. I am a vet and frequently find myself snickering at Democrats when they think they need Street Cred on the national security and the way to borrow Cred is to put a vet on the ticket. Bullshit! We need candidates who represent our values and not someone who supposedly has magical powers because they MIGHT mitigate a perceived weakness in the ticket or platform. Please stop insulting us!
the message is as strong as ever. The American people know they've been
had by these conservative thugs in the Administration and need to hear
a powerful argument for why the Democrats should have their hands on
the wheel that steers the ship of state. Howard Dean in the #2 spot
would be a strong signal that being forthright and talking to voters
like adults is going to be a priority. Wouldn't a running mate with a
reputation for straight talk, like Howard Dean, confirm Obama's message
of change?
This is no time for Democrats to over think this election. Its time for them to lead with a ticket that promotes the powerful message that they are going to DC and take back the White House from the war criminals. Who better to join the leadership of the Obama team than Howard Dean? Howard Dean is one of the primary architects of the 2006 election success and as a former governor and current Chair of the DNC understands the challenges in front of the American people.
The powerful political chops Howard Dean honed over the past four years would be a formidable asset to the Obama campaign.

I just got around to fully accepting him as the DNC Chairman when he gave that great speech Saturday, don't ask me to start thinking of him as VP too! :)

As much as I like the idea of a fairly gritty VP like Dean, the electoral math I've been looking at, including Billy Glad's, makes it look like Ohio, Michigan, Indianna, Virginia, New Mexico, and Colorado are the places democrats need help. Strickland is my bet for now, with Jim Webb possibly behind him. Finally, I wonder if Richardson would swing Texas?

There are three reasons why Dean should not be the nominee

At least Drudge won't be mocking any Obama vice-presidential candidate this time around. Dean can scream all he wants.

Cheney has set the VP bar pretty high. Don't the Dems have a better fit for the unapologetic, evil, back-stabbing, power-hungry, role that Dick has defined? Oh wait...I didn't mean to propose Hillary for the position.

I'm liking Bill Richardson more and more as Veep.
Used to like Webb, but it appears he isn't interested.
Or so he says.

I just want to let everybody know, for historical reference, that June 3 was the day the week-long Zoot Suit Riots began, when a mob of 60 from the Los Angeles Naval Reserve Armory beat up everyone perceived to be Hispanic.
I just automatically think of June 3 as Zoot Suit Riot Day, in case that ever pops up in conversation and it seems inexplicable or inappropriate to you.
That's just how I remember it's June 3.
So don't freak out or make a big deal out of it if I bring it up.

What a great suggestion, if you're going to go down, you might as well go down in flames. Why not announce the entire cabinet as well:
Pres: Obama
VP: Dean
Sec. of Defense: Kucinich
AG: Jim Traficant
Sec. of state: Cynthia Mckinney
I'll let you fill in the remaining offices.

Well, I like Dean, too, but I just can't see him as VP. He gives a pretty good speech, but I cringe when I see him doing interviews on the Sunday Talking Heads shows. He always has a really wierd smile stuck on his face, sort of stuck there, no matter what he's saying. And he bumbles and stumbles a lot. Not a great trait for a VP candidate going out trying to convey the campaign's message.
On a side note, I couldn't agree more regarding using the name "liberal". It's nothing to be ashamed of and it's why I backed Dean in the last election. Here in New Hampshire, the big advantage of going first is all the attention we get from the candidates early on, even those no one's ever heard of. We get to meet them all in small settings, can ask them anything, and get a real sense of who they are. I know it's not fair that we always go first, and we're part of the reason for the big MI mess, but as a political junkie, I LOVE it!
Anyway, I first saw Dean at a small, family run, rural book store. He stood there in front of small group and said we should not be ashamed to say we're liberals. I've never been ashamed to say that, but it had been a long time since I heard a Democratic candidate use the term in public. Once he took off, though, and started getting lots of media attention, he changed that and started saying we should not be ashamed to say we're Democrats. My heart sank, but I voted for him in the primary.
