Hope and Pride
Today, I am filled with hope and pride in my country. The Dream is alive! An African American is going to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States and a woman came so close to winning that many considered it her nomination to lose.
For all the ridiculous nonsense that threatened to intervene, Obama did not defeat Clinton on black vs white, north vs south, man vs woman, or Reverend Wright vs Denise Rich. I believe Senator Clinton lost on the merits for supporting the war in Iraq.
I think she could've been forgiven. Americans trust the President to have the best available intelligence and to certainly not lie about it to start a war. But Clinton waited far too long to repudiate her mistake, and that's an excellent reason for her to lose.
Barack Obama had the sense and the courage to speak out against the war, at a time
when it was popular and expedient to fall in line behind it. Hillary Clinton legitimized falling in line by doing exactly that.
If that's not the content of character that Dr. King dreamed about, then nothing is. It's a great day for America.
