GEORGE CARLIN Has Passed On. We WIll Miss You!!!

avatar

The world of humor, social commentary, and political satire has lost
its brightest light today with the passing of George Carlin.

As
possibly the best there was at not only sniffing out bullshit - but
denouncing it with no hemming or hawing or window-dressing, his always
on-the-money intellect was always there to point out the absurdities
and inatities of modern life - from religion to politics to culture,
George saw through the crap and called it like he saw it. He took no
prisoners - and brooked no euphemism or metaphor when a good, simple,
accurate word or sentence filled the bill.

I understand Keith Olbermann is doing a tribute to him MONDAY night during his broadcast. Don't miss it!

I
know George wouldn't want me to say anything as silly as 'God bless' -
and being an atheist, I am with him 100% - so I will only say,

Go ahead, say it. "God Bless, George."

He'd laugh his ass off.

Bye, George. You made me laugh my fucking ass off. And you made me think.

I do believe in God, and I'll say it: God bless you, George. You were a good soul and you tried to keep a pure heart. We'll miss you.

I loved George's irreverence when it came to religion. We need that! If he was an atheist, I didn't know it. He was relentless in exposing religious hypocrisy, but he wasn't disrespectful to those of us who do believe.

He was the natural choice to play the Cardinal Ignatius Glick in the movie Dogma.

And I have a copy of Carlin's book When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?" in my bookshelf for times when I need a good laugh.

Here's a clip of him where he mentions praying to the Empire State Building (about 3 minutes in). I think he might have been agnostic about his atheism, but I think that's the simplest "religious" label to apply to him.

He might not have been disrespectful to all people who believe, but he could definitely be blunt about certain beliefs. I think it's also safe to say that he had no beef with whatever people choose to believe as long as those beliefs weren't used to tell him what he could and couldn't do.
