Breaking News on MSNBC

Obama is at Hillary's house right now, in DC, talking things out.

Comments (104)

So far, no news other than the reporters swarming around have seen no signs of window breakage.

Camera angles (complete with zoom-in lenses) assure us that Obama is not locked in the cellar, his hands clawing at the basement windows.

I truly hope he is explaining why she will not be his choice for VP. Perhaps suggesting other possibilities in his cabinet. No, Lis, not Supreme Court Justice ;)

He is not there to tell her she will be VP. So make her feel better (as he can do), compliment her 'til she can't take it anymore and then...softly...say no.

softly....softly....into the night....

And now to CNN, who reports the same news, and then airs Maya Anjelou saying it's wonderful that they are coming together.

All must be well.

That reminds me of a song.

LOL!! I was thinking more on the lines of John Lennon's Come Together. But that song of yours works even better, thank you.

They are talking, one on one. That has to be a good thing not only for the country and the democrats, but for the two of them. It's been tough. It's been REAL tough. Hopefully, they can make amends.

Me thinks: They're orchestrating the Saturday run down.

Me thinks you may have a point.

Methinks he's probably asked, politely, if he could review her remarks.

Good point!

Ding Ding! Comment of the night!

I think I'm just more flabbergasted by the fact that Hillary is in Washington DC tonight.

I thought her "home" was here in New York. In Chappaqua, in Westchester.

After all, on Wednesday morning, Westchester County's own "Journal News" paper was the only NY paper to put Hillary on the cover, instead of Barack.

But, I digress.

I hope he brought his Secret Service detail.

No point, just an aside - I like your avatar.

Thanks! I used to sport a really obnoxious one of Bill OReilly with a scrunched up face. It was a welcome change.

Forgot to say, yours is better though.

Not really, but I thank you.

They are both beautifull.

Hey there. Thanks for the kind words; it's just a lot of one days. Soon the work begins, heheh. And btw, very nice to get the news on the other thread (regarding status), though for the life of me I can't imagine why -- other than personal choice -- that would be the case.

I am honored that you asked me my status, but it's too soon for me to consider anyone other than DF as my next, um...mate.

KISS,
Lis

Oh Heavens. I was so tempted...it was SO easy. But I won't, I will follow the future President and his example.

I'm sure the Clinton's have a home in both NY and DC due to logistics.

And just where do you think I got the breakig news from, silly?

Cigar, anyone?

;-)

What's worse? My typo, or my bad taste?

(waits for Otto and blank to show up)

MSNBC?

No cigar, thanks.

Maybe a Marlboro.....sigh

Where's Bill?

And just where do you think I got my news from, silly?

I do live in Westchester, after all...

This time, no cigar. You're not quick enough on the uptake tonight, my love.

Sorry, I'm alittle slow when I'm serious.

Touche.

The best news is that Bill isn't there. Get Hillary away from him, and maybe Obama can talk some sense into her. Yes he can, yes he can?

Obama's diplomatic skills are at test. Hillary is much tougher nut to crack- other nuts from Iran, North Korea or from Hell back of the line please!

I'm not sure that those are the nuts at risk at the moment.

Obama's diplomatic skills are at test. Hillary is much tougher nut to crack- other nuts from Iran, North Korea or from Hell back of the line please!

Nutcracker, anyone?

Just kidding.

I guess O can use one right now. I love this, I can totally see this primary made into a movie 10 years from now.

If it ware today Meryl Streep would play Hillary and Obama already said Will Smith should play him.

IMO, Laurence Fishburne is more presidential than Will Smith and closer in age.

Laurence Fishburne was born July 30, 1961.
Obama was born August 4, 1961.

Fishburne's not skinny enough. Doesn't have the ears either - which is why Will Smith, who is 40 this year, gets the nod. Fishburne could pull off having a funny name, though, after Morpheus.

Forrest Whittaker, after the south beach diet. He has that way of gazing off similar to Obama.

Yeh,
Will Smith always saves the Planet!!

They've said they don't know if it's on on one or a small group (MSM) - but I'm still assuming no Bill or we'd have heard he was "home".

kash- You're right. Solve the Hillary problem - the world will be easy after that!

I just took the leap and tried Fox News to see what they are saying. They're saying the same thing, only they're interspercing Reverend Wright clips, of all things. Lovely, lovely news channel, Fox News.

Fox news is like vomit. I can't stand the sight or the smell of vomit. More power to you that your stomach is apparently stronger than mine, LisB.

Thanks Lis! I switch around between CNN, MSNBC and when floundering for something...FOX. Thenks for taking the occassional leap with me.

Fox wont leave Rev Wright alone. I wont be surprise if BO old church sues Fox news. It might take that for Fox to stop.

I believe we all must contact Speaker Pelosi and other elected leaders about the following (I already have sent e mail). Hillary Clinton MUST get out in front of this and denounce these actions and I also think tell Davis and others to take down VP websites:

Clyburn: Clinton Supporters Flood Office With Hate Calls
by FOXNews.com
Wednesday, June 4, 2008

An angry and upset Rep. James Clyburn said Wednesday that his office has been deluged with nasty phone calls with racial overtones since his endorsement of Barack Obama a day earlier.

Clyburn told FOX News Radio’s “Brian and the Judge” that the callers identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters. Clyburn, an African-American and the third ranking House Democrat, said a white intern in his office was so upset by the calls that she had to be consoled by other workers and left the office early.

“We got more vitriolic, nasty phone calls, really racially tinged phone calls in my congressional office, so much so, until one of the interns, a young lady who is not a stranger to politics … and she is not a black person, she left the office, had to be consoled because of the kinds of phone calls from people who identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters,” he said.

Clyburn said some of the callers used “names that I would not repeat on this show today.”

“I was absolutely shocked, could not believe that this happened. I could understand people saying, ‘Why are you doing this or why would you not support Hillary Clinton?’ but to call me the kinds of names I have not heard since the ’40s and ’50s,” he said.

Clyburn said some of the callers threatened to “sabotage this election.” He added that he does not think Clinton understands her role in unifying the party.

“I’ve got a call in to Bob Johnson, a good buddy of mine, he’s a big supporter of Hillary Clinton, he’s now pushing for her to be on the ticket as VP. And I’m gonna tell him today they’d better really raise their voices because this kind of stuff is lethal,” Clyburn said.

The House majority whip later told FOX News that the nomination of a black man as a major party presidential candidate demonstrates the distance the United States has come in a short term.

“I think historically it means in the 60th year since Strom Thurmond walked out of the party on the issue of race, our party has decided that it’s time to turn the page on that issue in society,” he said referring to the late Dixiecrat turned Republican senator who was later discovered to have fathered a child with a black woman who worked as the family maid.

But Clyburn tempered his enthusiasm for Obama’s nomination, saying that there “are always pockets in this country of people who cannot find it in themselves to grow up. And to the extent which people fail to mature, we’ll still have some work to do.”

Still such a sad, sad world, after all this.

May it not be so, eight years from now.

And far beyond eight years. Hear, hear. May we all hear no more Bullshit (I tried to come up with a better word, but sorry, it IS what it IS)

Make this your own post. Please.

avatar

Word from Obama's camp. Meeting took place somewhere other than her house. It is over and described as a 'unity meeting' with subject what to do initially to bring party together.

“are always pockets in this country of people who cannot find it in themselves to grow up. And to the extent which people fail to mature, we’ll still have some work to do.”

No. They have the work to do. Our work is to pity them 'til thay do it sufficiently.

Can I get an Amen for my barefooted sister?

Seems not, but at least you thought it! Thanks -

I believe our work is to unite, stand up and do what we can to ensure these cretins know they are no longer relevant and have absolutely no credibility or place in our country.

Aunt Sam, you are my new hero.

Apparently I either cannot spell, type or edit. You decide.

Apparently I either cannot spell, type or edit. You decide.

What, you got a job with Fox News and didn't bother to tell us?!?

;)

Please recommend this post so the conversation may continue. It matters.

Hi Liz,
I just bought you a beer at the Obama fundraiser page that California Paige set up. I thought I'd get her a beer for setting it up and decided to buy a round for the others "at the table". The page is at http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/TPMObamaBeer

That's a cute way to drum up donations. TPM original?

Not PTM alone. All sites.

See? Not PTM (what is that?) TPM!

I just created my own page at my.barack to fundraise, talking about nothing but beer.

Oops.

Oh well. This round is on me, Cali Paige.

That particular one was set up by California Paige. There is a group set up by Ghengis on my.barackobama.com called TPMaholics. There is a recent post on the group that points to the fundraiser page. The beer idea was inspired by the reader known as workerbee. That's as much as I know. I thought it was a pretty clever idea too.
It's not in any way sponsored by the TPM site itself.

Also there is a plan for a houseparties across america fundraiser in July (tentatively the 19th). That was the major motivation to setting up the TPMaholics group, for organizing events and stuff. All parties of any size from anywhere are welcome to participate!!

This was meant to be a reply to demosaur above.

I KNOW!! I'm a member!

The problem is that when I went to buy a round of drinks at Paige's site, I didn't follow Paige's link after donating, but created my OWN silly beer drinking site.

God knows what Barack will think of me now, dammit.

TPM Aholics, you have no choice but to move me over somehow, or donate to me every time you buy someone else a beer, LOL!

Hey, I'm a team player. I'll just buy a round for myself worth $75 next month, and all will be well.

That's absolutely hilarious, LisB! We'll have to have a beer-off or something. :-)

And thanks both of you for the beers!

Not to mention drumming up support for our house parties.

Also, here's the story behind the TPM beer fundraiser page:

And in case anyone on this thread wants to be part of the Obama TPM group but isn't, you can join here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/group/TPM-aholicsSupportGroup

I'm already a member of the group, but I confess that I never check it. Good to know who had the idea, though; I like any sort of semi-cheesy way of challenging/inspiring folks to give a couple bucks here and there.

any sort of semi-cheesy way of challenging/inspiring

Hah! And glad to be of use. :)

Btw, as Bademus mentioned, we're always looking for more people to host house parties for the 7/19 event, so let me if you'd be interested in something like that.

I think we're off point-

Brings point around again.

And your point was? You'd like to be a FlyOnTheWall in the room that Obama and Clinton met in, and you'd like to know what was said.

That's absolutely hilarious, LisB! We'll have to have a beer-off or something. :-)

And thanks both of you for the beers!

Not to mention drumming up support for our house parties.

That, Lis, is my point. No matter who you support I don't want to see them here.

Hillary: Hi, Barack.

Barack: Hi, Hillary.

(Long pause)

lol

OBAMA:
"Make up your mind
decide to walk with me
around the lake tonight
around the lake tonight
by my side

By my side"

HILLARY:
"I'm not gonna lie
I'll not be a gentleman
behind the boat house
I'll show you my dark secret"

- The Toadies

Hillary: "I want the VP spot or there will be hell to pay"

Barack: "Hang on sweetie, let me think about it"

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

As much as I may like Barak Obama, I do not like salesmen. No matter what they sell. I will decide what I chose to do on my own.

He is the man I like. Not the people from his campaign doing their job, or the people doing the fundraising. Including, but not exclusive to Californiapaige.

I also do not appreciate her (and potential) others from ANY campaign on a reader's blog. Simply a friendly and invited troll.

I'll give this one shot, barefoot. And no, I won't ask you to BUY the shot if you fear your money will go to Barack Obama.

Several of us created and joined a group that belongs to mybarackobama.com -- which I had already belonged to since March or April of 2007 -- and we became friends through TPM and thought of ways we could spread the word. NOT ask for your money, if that's what your worry is.

You don't have to buy us a beer and raise money if that's what is turning you off.

You have a thing against salesmen? Don't buy a drink for me then. I once worked in a sales group as a secretary. Heaven forbid. Now I'm a saleswoman.

If I've misunderstood your objections to whatever it was you are objecting to, I apologize for whatever it was I did or said that led you to believe I or others were about to milk you for what you're worth.

???

I don't get it. Please help me here.

I absolutely love Barak Obama. Please don't get me wrong. However - I do not want to see shills posting on a site on my/his behalf. Especially when I did not invite them.

If I choose to speak of my opinions of Barak Obama I do not need the help of others. Yet, if I do, I will invite them openly and advise the on-line community to expect them.

And to clarify one point, barefooted, I'm not all associated with the campaign, beyond having an account at the campaign website and having used some the website's social networking tools.

I think that part of this miscommunication happened because LisB, Bademus, and myself dropped some context clues -- and since you weren't around for the creation of the TPM-aholics group, there was information about the nature of that group that you didn't have.

This is a good reminder, however, like Allsburg's post from yesterday, of how the community here is much larger than it was even a month ago, and how it's easy to make insider references without realizing it.

So, was your concern more about the initial discussion being derailed, or about the simple fact that a link posted lead to a fundraiser page? (The intent of the fundraiser link was to show the beers-per-person tally, rather than solicit donations; but the page isn't designed perfectly for that purpose.)

From my perspective, someone asked a question about a concept that I had started, so I was providing additional information. I got pulled in to the thread because of a comment in another thread about the beer thing; so I wasn't thinking about the main discussion topic of "what could the Senators' discussion have looked like?"

This issue -- thread derailment, that is -- has come up before; and it annoys some and amuses others, and as long as TPM doesn't support some sort of direct messaging system, I think it's inevitable that many threads will include "chatty" discussions that may be off-topic. My personal experience with the chatty threads is that they make me feel more included than excluded, and so I like them.

At any rate, I respect your opinion.

Arg, this is ambiguous: "dropped some context clues."

What I meant was that the context had be eliminated from the discussion, not that it had been "dropped" into it.

(hic)

I second that hiccup, and raise it with a third.

Can I get a Burp?

avatar

Thanks for the 'hero' - I think you're swell too.

Glad to have made a friend here tonight.

Reports now say that Sen. Obama met with Sen. Clinton at Diane Feinstein's home.

What to make of that?

avatar

Where did you 'hear'/'read' that? I hope Senator Feinstein was absent if it's true. She's been one of the bigget pushers of Hill as VP.
A few days ago read that Hill will most likely get cabinet position - she does not want to go back to Senate. And chance Bill will take her Senate spot. Have you heard anything about this?

That, Lis, is my point. No matter who you support I don't want to see them here

Huh?? Woman, you've completely lost me.

Context, please.
I do not want to see an invited troll from ANYONE'S CAMPAIGHN here. Even if she is trolling for the nominee whom I support.

See my reply above and reply in a way that makes sense to me. No one is asking you for a cent.

I ask you LisB- Did you post this? Or agree to it?

That's absolutely hilarious, LisB! We'll have to have a beer-off or something. :-)

And thanks both of you for the beers!

Not to mention drumming up support for our house parties.

Just a point that the post you've copied twice now from California Paige contains a link to the discussion thread that gave rise to the beer idea. The other link is to the social group TPMaholics on the obama website that was created, as LisB said, to be able to send messages to or plan events with other readers here who support Obama. Neither is a link to a fundraising page.

I put a link to the beer fundraiser page in my comment when I told LisB that I bought her a beer. I think it's a really clever idea that grew organically amongst people saying they would buy one another a beer in comments, not from inside a campaign.

That being said you do bring up a point worth discussion and that is should I have posted the link to the beer page or does that cross a line somehow? Is it best to just say I bought you an Obama beer? I know your answer to these questions, I wonder what others think.

To be fair, Bademus, I linked to the fundraiser page first -- my thinking was that showing the totals would be fun. So if there was a line crossed, I'll take the blame. Certainly didn't intend to "sell" anyone on anything; just thought it would be fun. And I'm about the last person who would ever tell someone whom they should vote for or donate for, so if that was missing from any of my comments, then I didn't communicate correctly.

But it's a good question: I think that the beer concept is a fun idea -- honestly, the part that appeals to me about it the most is just having a way to acknowledge other people that's a little bit more of an investment than simply saying, "hey, thanks" -- but as it amounts basically making donations in honor of someone else, I can see the problem. And of course this is an all-inclusive site, and if we have a few McCainites or Naderites or Paulites or Nota-ites around here, I still want to hear what they have to say and make sure they are welcome.

Any suggestions for how to make that all work? Not including a link could be confusing, and lead to people feeling more "left out." I suppose I could build a separate page to host the results only, and not include a "donate" button, but that just seems like different attire on the same thing.

Did you notice the words: You can join here ??

The word CAN denotes a choice. You CAN choose, or you CAN choose to NOT join a group that has been around for the past two months.

barefooted, I'm not asking you for any money, and I'm not asking you to join a group. It just so happens that some of here at TPM joined and formed our own group wherein we raise money and form get-togethers for Obama on the side.

We comment to each other now and then. We form meet-ups outside of the group too.

If you don't want to join up, no one is asking you to, and if you feel we are making a commercial on the side, you can bring it up with our group on mybarackobama.com.

avatar

I think it's a great idea. Good For You!

Thanks everybody else for a fun and ongoing thread about a new news item this evening.

See you tomorrow.

avatar

"The word CAN denotes a choice."

No shit. Barefoot can also "choose" to chill. Sheesh.

I've enjoyed the funny parts of this thread, and frankly, I appreciated the links the others posted.

I'm sorry that you missed the point. It's an important one to me -

I'm sorry you missed the boat. It's a nice ride.

I've always said those two needed to get a room.

I just hope he brought his food-taster in case she offers him anything.

I've always heard that a unicorn horn will turn black if it's dipped in poisonous food.

And Barack is magical, like a unicorn. So we'll know something's up once he turns bl--OH MY GOD! SPIT IT OUT, OBAMA! SPIT IT OUT!
