ATTENTION GRABBING CAPS: Two questions for general discussion
1) How the hell did the DNC get screwed into having their convention first again? Shouldn't it be our turn to go last and benefit from the post-convo bounce?
2) Could a congress that gave a damn make sure that this November's would be a fair election, in terms of access and count, in all 50 states, or is it too late?

Tradition is that the challenging party has their convention first and hence the incumbent party goes last. FYI.

and as for your 2nd question...
1) republicans in congress dont want a fair election
2) president bush will veto anhy effort to make sure we have a fair election
3)it probably is too late logistically for any changes to take place in time for the elction

and 4)states, not congress, set election standards, so while there may be some things they can do, they're probably more limited than wed like.

Good answers all. I was blissfully unaware of the convention schedule protocol.
Too bad though that a tie goes to the runner and the runner is always the GOP.

Curiously, this text is still part of the constitution:
It would seem that states could appoint electors by act of the legislature or even by executive order if they so wanted.
