And Now, From Your Cruise Social Director....
I posted this notice at the bottom of LisB's love-fest post, which will be expiring shortly ... so it occurs to me that, perhaps, it deserves a post of it's own.
Please feel free to drop by the new TPM-aholics chat room anytime. I can't guarantee the discussion will always be about politics, or even that there will be a discussion... You people are beyond my control. But so far, topics of conversation have ranged from from NY vs. CA to Ralph Nader (and covered much in between).
This may be a Bad Idea(tm), but I happened to stumble across a free web-based chat app today, so I set up a "TPM-aholics" room. Don't know if we need this sort of thing any more (or ever did), but I figured, "why not try it?"
Anyway, it's a persistent link; you don't have to create an account, you can use whatever name you like, and it's supposed to work with all browsers: http://www.lingr.com/room/TPM-aholics
Enjoy!

CaliforniaPaige, thanks for the lingr room link.
I am going to be buying some people beers. But before I got in to do that, could you please clear up some questions I have?
When you update, do you get to see the real names of the people donating? Or their credit card names?

Hi Cricket4,
Look what you just made me do. In order to test out the site so I could answer your question, I had to go buy some more beer!
Workerbee, LisB, I got one for each of you to thank you for test driving the new chat room this evening.
Anyway, to answer your question, Cricket4, it appears that the name that gets passed through to me is the first and last name from the "Contributor" section on the donation form. So normally that would be the credit card name, though I'm not sure that technically it needs to be. (You might be able to fake out the system.) I will not, of course, reveal any "real names" to anyone else.

Thanks, CaliforniaPaige. While I appreciate your effort, I apologize that my query sent you off to buy beers to answer my question. ;-)

Apologize to workerbee and LisB, not me. They're the ones who have to drink the beers you made me buy! ;-)

Looks like I missed the feral cat discussion. My monsters seem to have adapted pretty well...
As far as online communication goes, I've always been a fan of IRC, but that might be a bit much to set up for folks who aren't computer or internet literate. That or ventrilo, but if text chat is hard, getting VoIP software working well is a whole 'nother level.

Someone did set up an IRC channel once (maybe it was DF), but it seemed like the barrier to get that going was too high for anyone who didn't already have an IRC client installed -- so that's why I tried doing it this way.

Setting up the ChatZilla extension in Firefox and clicking on an IRC URL is not terribly hard...

Is true. But even that's one more step. (It's not that difficult to install a standalone IRC client either.)
