Al Gore Endorses- Your views on his role
Excerpt of his statement:
From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected President of the United States. I’ve never asked members of AlGore.com to contribute to a political campaign before, but this moment and this election are too important to let pass without taking action. Over the past 18 months, Barack Obama has united a movement. He knows change does not come from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or Capitol Hill. It begins when people stand up and take action.
Your thoughts on the role of Al Gore, if any, in Obama campaign and possible administration. Make sure to recommend, shameless yet not fully unfair plea.

Sorry, I usually don't spam. But I'm so pissed with Hillary postmortem, I went whacky on every post.

I'm so pissed I can't even comment on it in the thread.
I was actually speechless.
I just removed Election central from my browser's tabs (a series of which open when I open the browser) and from all my various blog, etc.
For the most part it's just Muckraker and some of the front page post for me.

Well, I think this is a good first step. Maybe Senator Obama will give Al Gore, a specific role in the energy, climate change.
I think Al Gore could also help with the independents, as much as Al Gore has been working hard on that front trying to unite people to fight for the climate change.
I have read that there are a few like Colin Powell, who also could endorse Obama, that would certainly bring some extra support on the Obama camp.

Of course, the Righties are gonna jump all over this with the usual slime(Didn't he "invent" the Internets?? etc..) but overall I'm glad Gore is speaking out and lending support. He's presented a very positive picture of how a dignified Former Vice-President should act, as opposed Cheney who has crapped all over the veep office.

Way to go, big Al!
He should be able to make mincemeat of McCain's supposed mavericky-ness on global warming.

I wish he had come forward much sooner.

I agree. There have been dozen different occassions beginning OH/TX primary- I was desperate to see Al Gore endorse. But in Hindsight, I'm glad he waited.
I'm more interested now on his role. Also, his appeal for donations is BIG DEAL, will bring in a lot of green...GREEN.

I would LOVE for Al Gore to be Obama's VP pick. It would be perfect even thought he's already done that routine once.
His main concerns have been running for office (Pres) would have take away from his environmental work despite the fact he'd have the world stage of the oval office, in that it would have many other problems requiring his attention, not just Global warming.
As Obama's VP, he could focus solely on that without all the other distractions.
And mark my word, I bet Obama asks him.
The added plus, the country is ready for a psychological do-over and while a run of Pres would have be optimal (in my book) this would have the same affect -- letting them correct a HUGE mistake from 2000.
Has this happened yet, kash?
I've stopped watching all day coverage - needed a vacation.

He will formerly appear with Barack in MI tonight. It would another spectable, among some of the most memorable political endorsement theatres this season.
Kennedy endorsement was the best.
Richardson, Edwards were also orchestrated brilliantly.
Maria Shriver endorsement also had a touch of courage and drama.

This should be pretty damn good too. Can't wait to see to what level he levels the Bush Admin & the McSame connection to it.

It's about two weeks since Obama became the Nominee.
Why hasn't he endorsed until now? Or is this just for show?

It was one hell of an endorsement speech. It really spoke to the experience criticism. Any way it goes, If Gore stumps like THAT for Obama more this campaign, it will be exciting to watch!
Do you really think Gore is viable as VP? I still can't quite get my head around the idea enough to come up with an opinion either way.

Not VP. I used to read the Daily Howler, thus don't expect the press to ever warm to Gore as a politician. But I could see him as a great Secretary of Energy, a position that will greatly rise in importance, I fear.

Former Vice President Gore , could also lead the confrontation with the neo cons regarding war crimes , unitarian theory , and corporate take over of our system of government . Mr Gore , would be the perfect foil to be deployed against all the concervative clap trap concerning all manner of misguided policy -most importantly the misguided and tragic attempt to bring democracy to iRAQ at the point of a bayonet .
It is a movement - so lets get moving !

He made one of the finest arguments to date for the election of Sen Obama. If he had spoken that well for himself in 2000 he would have won.

thanks for the post, Kashy -
keeled over before being able to view it live stgreaming so many thanks to clearthinker for posting the video.
Given the amorphous crap coming out of McCain's mouth on energy, and the reasonable inference that can be drawn between the midwest floods, our current infrastructure status (e.s., falling Minnesota bridges) and the further ruination of our federal infrastructure funds that would be caused by bandaid governance (e.g the gas tax holiday) this does seem to be an excellent time to roll out Obama's views on green reinvestment via a Gore endorsement.
I agree with Joshua - I'd not looked at TPM reader posts for a day or so and after the interim saw just bunches of utter claptrap. Dipped my toe into reading one and closed in disgust; life is too short - but before closing did get a bellylaugh at the first comment: "rumor has it that X recommends his own posts"

You're welcome. TPM coverage of the endorsement at best can be charecterized as pathetic. May be not a game changing endorsement at this point- but GORE is a huge deal in the democratic party especially now when Clintons has skid down.

When Gore says that Obama:
I hear a clear rejection of Hillary's comments re MLK, when she said that
How about his praise of those politicians who did oppose the war from day one?
Nice speech.

I'm unsure that Mr. Gore will have a place in the Cabinet. Instead, I think he may work closely with an Obama administration to further develop and work on the issues he has already been working on. Close ties to a Democratic administration could make his efforts much more successful.

Obama needs to travel precinct-by-precinct with Gore in Florida. Then he should announce that once in office, Gore will be his Secretary of Saving the World.

Larry Geater ,
President elect Gore did speak that eloquently for himself in 2000 - and win the election. Dick Cheney's duck hunting buddy Scalia-and the rest of those neo con Supremes stole the win Al won and gave it to bushcheney . We must never ever forget that they stole 2000 for sure. ( And if you read Brad's blog at face value they may have stole 2004 from kERRY - of course kerry brought a knife to a gun fight ..which Obama clearly has learned from..)
