War of Attrition
The Clinton strategy is very simple; it's a war of attrition. The
recipe is quite straightforward and only requires a monumental amount of
chutzpah.
It works like this: Say something outrageous. People will protest
loudly. Back down a bit. After the outrage dies down, say the same
thing, perhaps with minor modifications. There will be outrage again,
but a lot less of it. Keep at it for weeks or months, or years if need be. Never admit that
you're wrong or anything silly like that.
The end result is that your opponents are worn down and tired. They no longer have the energy to argue or even protest. You can simply outshout them. They'll fold.
Not everyone can pull off this strategy. The user needs to be a fundamentally dishonest person, or at least brainwashed (the strategy can be used in both politics and religion). Intelligent and honest people are incapable of using this method because it goes against their principles. They are reluctant to lie and in some cases even believe that ends do not justify the means.
When this strategy is properly deployed, it is almost impossible to fight against. The opponents must be ever vigilant and have virtually inexhaustible energy. On top of that, they must withstand mind-numbing repetition. This is extremely difficult and therefore this method rarely fails.
I'm sure everyone can fill in examples of persons and groups who have successfully used this strategy in the past.

Thanks for messing up my formatting, TPM. I was afraid the post might look too neat, but there was no need to worry.

I'm all for putting out the simple:
Clinton / Liar
meme.
I know longer care about nuance or minor exceptions with her. She doesn't, I don't need to either.
Clinton / Liar
Clinton / Liar
Clinton / Liar
How does that feel?

Good point, TC.
I had also recently come to the conclusion that for all the hand-wringing over equanimity of the press, the simple fact is that Senator Clinton in truth is virtually every negative label ascribed to her, racist and flat liar inclusive.
So, to answer your question directly - it actually feels quite liberating!
From now, moving forward, I have decided to hold no qualms about calling her as I see her.
There are those who might claim I have fallen neatly into her trap - that she has enraged me to where reason is suspended, and I descend wholly into the very divisions she attempts to sow. But I am now without fear, and more importantly, remorse. Any of her supporters who happen to read this will surely berate me, and I have cannons fully primed to fire back. The gloves are off.
To whomever may offer absolution, please attempt to forgive me for taking this highly emotional, irrational stance. I did the best I could, and my failure is no one's save my own.

Funny thing - you don't sound very emotional or irrational at all...

You shoulda seen what I wrote before the self-censor chip kicked in. ;)
At any rate, I'm working hard to pull myself back from the mental brink and regain my civility - at least until Clinton's next press call/letter/sound bite.

Interesting thinking and I agree. This whole brouhaha caused by Hillaryland has gotten so tiresome that I actually feel completely worn out.
And what I find so astounding is that the Hillary supporters believe the lies and the spin that her campaign keeps coming up with. Sheesh!
I think that the RW has been using this strategy for the last 8 years. It's a wonder we Democrats have had as much spunk as we've been showing. And really makes me curious how much of what we are seeing from her supporters is actually being promoted by the right.

I think the RW has been using this strategy for a lot longer than the last 8 years, but with the Bush crew it's become much more widespread. Or perhaps the Bushites have been simply more daring and the cognitive dissonance was much harder to ignore as a consequence.

You might want to revisit some German history from the antebellum of WWII. I think there was this failed art student with only one testicle who might have developed this strategy first..

I would be extremely surprised - nay, shocked - if this strategy was less than a few thousand years old. The world changes, but people don't...

It's the Democratic version of that Dubya/Rove/Cheney plan - state it, repeat it, rinse it, restate it.

One piece of irony about the title is that Clinton is using this tactic to become the first female president, while the actual War of Attrition was fought by Israel's first female PM. It was about as popular.
This isn't to say that women leaders are the same, just that it's an ironic similarity.
