VA Gov. Tim Kaine for Veep
Post of my comment made under this post:

I don't buy that he [Obama] picks Webb [for the VP slot]. The novels he wrote with fictional rape scenes and other sexual scenes were panned for being misogynistic. Talk about turning off women voters in a race where a woman was denied the 'inevitable' nomination. But, I believe that Webb's fellow Virginian, Gov. Tim Kaine, would make a great VP. Very religious background (former missionary:Community organizing) and bona fide progressive fiscal policies. He would carry VA for certain and maybe puts the blue wave within reach of NC/TX in the general election. That's to say nothing of MO/CO/IA/WI/OH/FL. To me, a Virginian (living now in NY), Kaine is a no brainer.
I happen to suspect that Obama is looking for a running mate that shares his frame of mind: pragmatic, progressive, and a record of working for consensus on progressive policies, which fits in Obama's message of unification and a common national purpose. He's not looking for branding types: hawkish, religious, fiscal conservative, religion or race. That would undermine the very premise of his candidacy, which is that a unified national purpose is not acheived by the same approach to politics. Of course, this is itself political, the new kind.
I also recall that prior to the VA primary, there were numerous articles on the observation that the two of them had never met prior, but soon connected strongly, sharing 'war stories' about their shared politics. I think their two backgrounds- Kaine doing missionary work and Obama doing community organizing- indicates they share a common outlook on creating consensus around progressive policies. I'm just connecting dots because there are dots to connect, but it won't be for loss of logic.
Please comment on other tea leaf observations in the media.

Hagel, Biden, Reno. Would be in my top 10.

Hagel cabinet (Sec. of defense) for sure. I was at a book signing where he all but said he'd accept a position.
I would be shocked if he was VP. I think he's great, but his politics are pretty far to the right, but he's big on consensus and his mentor was Moynahan, so who knows. I have a lot of respect for him.
I think Wesley though. Is he mean enough to attack? That's a big question.
Too bad about the Webb stuff. He's a great choice. I think military experience is really important when considering.

I like Webb the candidate, not a fan of his literature though. So, indeed, too bad. And I, too, used to think that Obama would need to counterbalance the lack of military experience. But, the more I think about Kaine, the more I wonder if Obama needs to counterbalance the Wright stink and recover the working class whites, especially in the industrial midwest. Having a white, southern, former missionary and governor may virtually innoculate Obama against Wright in the fall.

I'm gonna have to give the Kaine business some thought.

I'm betting it will be a Hillary ally who has military credibility, like Wesley Clark. She obviously still has a ton of support, and choosing someone like that would send a positive signal to her supporters.

Kaine is cool because no one on the Democratic side wants to give up, and rightly so, their Democratic Senator in the their state.
I am reluctant to recommend Senators Feinstein and Boxer in this space because, I believe Arnold wants one of their seats.

The problem with Kaine is Bill Bolling, the Republican Lieutenant Governor of Virginia.

Bill Richardson

Obama will not pick someone from Congress, IMO. That would be very stupid.
Bill Richardson has more in common with Bill Clinton than the first name, Chris Brown.
I was kinda hoping for Missy Elliot, myself, since I'd love see a woman.

Are you talking (tongue-in-cheek, presumably) about this Missy Elliot, or is there another that my ignorant self is unaware of. Given your previous comments, I'd bet that you are talking about the musician, but I know what happens when we assume.

Sam Nunn would do just fine.

Kathy Sebelius of Kansas, Bill Richardson of New Mexico (would help a LOT in the mountain west) or Ed Rendell (win Pa and probably Ohio with him on the ticket)
