V for Vendetta
I'm not sure what this means, but it sounds like GOOD NEWS !!! (unsure of how many exclamation points required here, but h/t to you-know-who in any case):
Mich. Dems settle on delegate-seating plan to bring to DNC
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080508/ap_on_el_pr/primary_scramble;_ylt=AiQeFDSjzsHpsv7HjA0WoY6s0NUE
Michigan Democratic leaders on Wednesday settled on a plan to give presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton 69 delegates and Barack Obama 59 as a way to get the state's delegates seated at the national convention.
Now that the cheery portion of this post is out of the way, let's get down to business. Emphasis on "down" ... as in, I didn't expect to be down today, but forces larger than myself have intervened, and I am now feeling really down about this latest downer:
From the JedReport:
Running for president without knowing why
http://www.jedreport.com/2008/05/running-for-pre.html
As Hillary Clinton ponders her next move, she is finding that there is consensus within her inner-most circle about whether to stay in the race -- the answer is yes -- but no consensus about why, and for how long.
As Jed notes ... Those questions are, shall we say, non-trivial.
And I would note, the only thing scarier than having a big friggin' WHY? hanging over your campaign would be if the only answer your candidate could come up with was:
Because I'm white and so are you. And if you're not, well, thanks for all you've done for the Democratic Party in years past, but we're well into the non-trivial stage of this contest, and there are larger concerns to be addressed that you simply haven't taken into account, yet. Namely, how do I win this thing? Although, if you happen to have any insight into how to answer that last question, by all means, welcome aboard!
Ughh. Now I'm wondering why I insisted on even going there? Wasn't necessary. This contest is all but over. Don't worry, be happy. So, in that spirit, let's take a walk on the brighter side and enjoy some of today's better TPMCafé posts:

Three upbeat posts for the road, and already I'm feeling better. Enjoy!
It really is all about strapping on that positive attitude and understanding that it's all for the best, as my good friend Pangloss, er, Digby, recently reminded me:
This is the way politics (life actually) really works. And it often winds up making the party stronger and brings important issues to the fore. Watch closely how this thing unfolds over the next few weeks. It's going to be very interesting.

Come to think of it, I think I'm gonna head over to Digby's place and let her know just how reassured I'm feeling now that it's all been explained to me.

Another trenchant post sabotaged by the pro-Clinton forces holding Josh back from making improvements to the TPM software. I'm coming for you, Josh!

It's gonna be me and the crickets here, so any of you Hillary supporters who wanna defend the latest rhetoric coming out of her campaign (and mouth), please feel free to take the floor.

Obama should concede in light of his continued failure to become white.

Genghis,
You know I'm a mean-spirited cuss who has no intention of allowing my anger to be mollified or dampened in any way by your good humor!
And, besides, considering it's verboten to chat up our fellows in these parts, if you've got nothing substantive to leave on this thread, well, then please do a Marvin K. Mooney and leave me here to stew. Thanks!
/sarcasm (except for the 'verboten' part ... that was all about you and your 'guidelines' ... how's that been working out for ya'??
:)

Yes, I'm now hip to your snark. No smileys or sarcasm tags needed. I do think that the quality of posts have improved, but I cannot demonstrate that my post was a factor in this improvement.

OK, this is going to devolve into V for Venting ...
If Hillary had, at any point in her campaign, come out and said ... 'Enough is enough - Barack and I are going to compete on the merits, and I won't stand for red-baiting, race-baiting, or rightwing attacks on my opponent, any more than I will stand for similar attacks on myself or any member of my Party' ... Hot Damn! Who's to say she wouldn't be our presumptive nominee? Lord knows I'd be talking like we'd been blessed with not one, but two, fantastic Democratic candidates this time around.
But, I think she's seriously misread the mood of the Party and the Country, and now she's paying the price.
"Post-racial" doesn't mean we get to ignore the brown and black folks. It means we get to start ignoring the distractions that've enabled folks in Hillary's income bracket to treat us like a bunch of banana republic suckers, and get down to the real work of rebuilding our country. These high-income plutocrats have used wedges, like racial prejudice, to keep us all at each other's throats to their advantage.
"Post-racial" doesn't mean we all somehow suddenly forgot how we struggled to get to where we're at this year with a Democratic coalition that is going to win elections in November. We know how we got here, and it's gonna make victory all that much sweeter.
It's not Obama's fault, it's not my fault, and it's sure as hell not the fault of black folks who - if they ain't full members of my Party - then I don't know what my Party stands for anymore.
I'm gonna write this one off as someone's desire to go out with a bang instead of a whimper ... but damn if I'm not gonna be banging on Hillary's Democratic opponent's door come the next Senate race in NY! (OK, that was figurative, but I assume he/she will have a website where I can donate).

This one-avatar conversation has gone on too long. It's bad for the candidates, it's bad for TPM, and it's bad for right-thinking folks who take our drinks in moderation. One has to ask, what is the point of continuing? I call for this thread to end sooner rather than later.
