This is a most interesting quote
from the headline story of Thursday's New York Times (Republican Election Losses Stir Fall Fears) :
“This was a real wake-up call for us,” Robert M. Duncan, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said in an interview. “We can’t let the Democrats take our issues. We can’t let them pretend to be conservatives and co-opt the middle and win these elections. We have to get the attention of our incumbents and candidates and make sure they understand this.

Well, perhaps they should pretend to be conservatives rather than the rabid radicals they've morphed into.
I don't see them having much of an angle. The last 8 years speaks for itself.

The last time I heard Republicans saying things like that was when Bill Clinton won the presidency. And, yes, Bill did co-opt some of their issues, but then as now, it was just sour grapes and a way for Republicans to claim that: "They're only winning by being like us."
Heck, at the time, I kind of believed the Republicans. I spent much of the 90s mad at Bill for being too Republican. But living through 2 terms of Bill's economy and 2 terms of Dubya's is enough to prove to me that even if Bill did triangulate, he maintained crucial differences.
Anyway, when Republicans claim their issues have been stolen that's music to my ears. It means they're losing.

I read the Republican strategery pdf that this references. The main finding is that "cultural" issues are where they have a shot. Nothing will change here, save "rebranding."
