The Egocentrics

Egocentric:

adjective: limited to or caring only about oneself or one's own needs and interests.

noun: a self-centred person with inadequate regard for others.

What we continue to see with Hillary and with a minority of her supporters has nothing to do with their politics and everything to do with their egocentrism.

And it is their egocentrism, not their politics, that continues, even now, to bind them.

They will not put the Democratic Party's, let alone the country's, needs and interests above their own or even on a par with them. Don't expect them to: they won't. They're either incapable or unwilling — not that there's much difference between the two.

Their on-going efforts to influence those in control of their fates (pledged delegates, super-delegates, the Rules Committee, the Credentials Committee, donors, media, etc.) by spurious arguments, transparent blackmail and unseemly tantrums — all of these efforts spring not from their politics but from their egocentricity.

Only one thing will put an end to their behaviour, and that will be the realisation they will all have, sooner or later, that they are not going to get their way.

When that happens, they will adjust their egocentrism to demand what they can get. They are not stupid. They are certainly not self-sacrificing. They are egocentric. When they understand that to get what they can get, they must support Obama, that is exactly what they'll do.

While the majority of Hillary's supporters can be counted on to support Obama for any or all of the right reasons, Hillary and her egocentric-minority supporters can be counted on to support Obama because they are egocentrics.

Don't expect all of them to do it graciously or even openly. But count on it.
