So...The Best Way To Counter The Off-Chance That A Desperate, Crazy Supporter Thought You Wanted Bad Things To Happen Is To...Claim This Is All A Conspiracy Against YOU?
The topic is provocative, perchance, but this is the worst-case interpretation. Why, why could she not just say she was sorry that the remark she made was a terrible accident and that she was truly sorry about offending the Obamas, the Kennedys and everyone else on the planet? It would have blown over quick.
Instead, she uses her chance to do so to further the fabrication that everyone is out to get her.. this is exactly the type of thing that sets off of further reinforces the crazies who can only think of one thing to Save the Cheer--Save the Candidate and Save the World before it is too late.
We already had the apologists making this exact argument minutes after the threads started and it has been getting stronger. (Mind you, there is certainly a group of rational Hillary supporters here, too.)
I could not make my mind up on the original remarks but was leaning on, ah, inartfulness. But the "apology" and now this are bad stuff.
Bad, bad stuff.

That would obviously be "sets off or further reinforces the crazies."

About the only people it set off were the people who wanted it to be a big deal. It wasn't.

You know, claiming that black is white doesn't actually make it so.
But I can see that supporting Hillary at this point requires a powerful reality distortion field. You definitely qualify to be a Clinton supporter.

This is old politics. Bush/Cheney/Rove politics.
Never admit your mistakes. Never say you're sorry. In that case, many people never notice them or will give you benefit of the doubt.
It only works a few times. Once the mistakes, missteps and errors in judgements start piling up, people start to take notice.

Otto,
Dead-end HRC supporters, such as yourself, are becoming scary. It used to be that I would get a good chuckle out of the things I read, you know, all in good fun type stuff. But now, many of you, like her, are crossing over to a very dark place, emotionally. She leads, you follow.
Some Clinton supporters have called Obama supporters cultists. Yet what could be more cult like than that? IF ANY of the candidates can be characterized as resembling a (verging on dangerous) cult leader, its Hillary Clinton.
You all will share her increasingly evident insanity if you don't curtail the hyper-emotionalism and start thinking.

She really does operate solely on an attack is the only form of defense principle, doesn't she?
It occurred to me today ruefully that, if it does end up that she's on the ticket, maybe when she starts playing that one against the Republicans we'll all start to admire her?

Over on kos there was a great post which posited what Clinton would have done if Obama had made the Kennedy statement
(here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/24/8251/65136)
I paraphrase:
- memo from campaign headquarters ripping him for such a horrible remark
- surrogates all over the airways
- an ad highlighting the remark and how awful Obama is...
Think not? Remember "Bittergate"
And now Clinton is blaming Obama for keeping the focus on this? You have got to be kidding me.

I saw this great comment on Huffington Post and I just had to repeat it:

The "gang rape" of Sen Clinton's character runs non-stop on TPM. Way to keep it up.

Why are you invoking the horrible, horrible atrociously violent act of "gang rape" to describe what you believe is the mistreatment of Hillary? Is that the new Clinton talking point--that she is being raped?

Who is the sexist now, moron?

I find it extremely offensive to see you liken calling Hillary Clinton out on her behavior to "gang rape". You do not do service to Hillary, her supporters, or women everywhere by invoking it.

yeah,
They're using "gang raped" and "mob raped".
Get the connection?
Black man. White woman. Rape.
Dog whistle blown.
