Seven 9/11s
The death count from Myanmar is 22,000 and rising. 41,000 people are missing. Millions are homeless.
I just thought someone should mention it. I know this is a blog for politics but even on the websites of the american media outlets its nothing more than a secondary story. In fact, on CNN.com, its not even a "top story".
A little perspective: on 9/11 we lost only 3000 people. And that was enough to mobilize us into two wars.
And yet, 22,000 dead, and 41,000 missing...elicits nothing more than a headline and a top of the hour update.

They did just do a piece on this on CNN. I guess their guy there is the only western journalist, as far as they know...

Weather reports suggest that the cyclone approached Myanmar from the general direction of Indonesia.
No indication yet whether Myanmar will take military action against the island nation.

I would like to give money to help. Does anyone have recommendations? I found this link:
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/globalgiving-launches-myanmar-disaster-relief-fund,381738.shtml
The organization is "Global Giving." I don't know if it is reputable.
I appreciate any information.
Thanks for the post.
