Senate Races: I think I've figured it out!!!!!!!!!
Why do the dems seem to be picking up huge quantities of delegates this year?
I think I know why: because of the primaries! This is probably one of the only good things about the democratic primary dragging on so long, especially with it being so highly publicized.
Since the Republican race is already over, when the dems came to start battling in NC, there was no republican primary to counterbalance all the publicity. Therefore, we see a new possible democratic senate pickup: North Carolina!
I think this point deserves exploring. Do you agree?

1. There was a Republican primary in NC on the same day.
2. The delegates for Democrats have nothing to do with Republicans.
3. The delegates for Democrats are awarded based on the voter turnout in the last election in that particular district.
4. There is only one Senate seat in play at any given election. The 2 Senators from each state are elected in staggered elections.
None of this has any bearing on the one possible Senate pickup (Kagan vs. Dole) in NC.

that's the one I'm talking about.
By the way, it's Hagan, not Kagan

I think there is a point there, however, since the added publicity will surely get more Democratics excited about actually voting. Don't know how much of an effect there will be, however.

One of the many benefits from the extended race has been that we've all but totally drowned-out the Republicans and as I suggested in a recent post, when forced to choose a primary, the Independents who vote in ours are causing the down-ticket Republicans to be chosen mostly by their base.
But, yeah, what fabooj said.
