Sen Byrd West VA
There is a great article on Daily Kos urging Senator Byrd to endorse Obama.

At the end of the article there is a link to write to Senator Byrd. I did, I hope you will too!

It would be nice to see, but I don't think I'll see it before Hillary drops out.
Instead of the great unifying occasion Obama's candidacy could be, people like Hillary want to make it into a divisive pandering disgusting appeal to fear and hatred.

I know... It's depressing .
I think she just cant stand it that he is winning.
She must have dropped the pandering about the gas tax holiday. I haven't heard anymore about it. Obamas response about it being a "shell game" was just so good !

I don't know if you or the person on the other blogsite has ever been to West Virginia, they love Sen. Byrd's pork and respect him as a leader, but I don't know that he'd have as much influence as Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Duval Patrick when it comes to affecting his constituents, especially since Obama has apparently not scheduled any additional appearances in the state.
From the looks of the calendar, he's probably on the airwaves, but without scheduling any upcoming appearances, he could've already conceded WV and KY.

He'll be in WVA on Monday. I was hoping he'd schedule at least two Town Hall meetings a day starting no later than Sunday. One day in a state is not much of an effort. If he does not get them now, he could possibly get them in November if he tried hard enough.

He was in Charleston on March 20th, when I beleive they announced Jay Rockefeller's endorsement and for some reason, I think that he went on to something in Huntington, but I didn't have a link at my fingertips.
But, yeah, he doesn't appear to be making much of an effort in the state and unless something's changed, it sort of looks the same way for KY.

I'm in Northern VA. I have only been to West VA once, many years ago. Maybe Byrds endorsement wouln't help that much, but I don't think it would hurt !

I really wouldn't expect Sen. Byrd to endorse either candidate because he really can't afford to alienate either candidate, so much of his political fortunes are tied to his ability to get pork. I'd also say that for this reason, if he were to contemplate endorsing anyone, then it'd most likely be Cl;inton because she's more popular with his constituents and because Obama wants to to limit pork.
I know that it sounds like a clich&ecute;, but I have relatives in WV and have traveled throughout the state, you can actually point to things and say that it's courtesy of Sen. Byrd and the locals make no bones about it.
As for the "electibility" question, a lot of the state shares characteristics with the areas it borders: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Western Virginia and Western Maryland. I really don't think any of these are Obama strongholds, so I'd expect him to do well in specific areas, but I really don't see him winning the state in the primary and it's going to take some effort for him to win it in the fall.

Isn't it interesting that Obama and Byrd both spoke out against going to war ?
I think he should endorse and the sooner the better ! I can hope, can't I ? :)
