Open Thread: Sealing the Deal
We've all found ourselves asking this question from time to time, privately, in our most solitary moments. Maybe some of us have found answers from which others might benefit. Let's have a real, frank, open dialogue here, now, as I think our Presidential candidates would want it to be: Why can't Barack Obama seal the deal among racists?

Sort of same reason Hillary doesn't do well with Misogynists.

Are you honestly suggesting that all misogynists are sexist?!?

Never, you know me. I don't even know what the words mean. I am waiting for you or Aaron to correct my grammar and spelling first. Then maybe I can go look up what I just said

Hey, as long as you stay away from the word "your", you tend to do just fine. ;)

your kidding right?

Touché.
(Just in case you're at all offended in reality—the only reason that was brought up is because it's the only spelling/grammar mistake I see you making.)

Don't wait for me. If it doesn't matter to you whether or not you're typing in English, it's not gonna break my heart. Feel free to start looking up those big, fancy words!

Please include a definition of "racist" if you would. Is that someone that would vote/wouldn't vote for a person because of their racial identity? Thanks.

I'll defer to our friends at M-W on this one:

Thanks. I'll defer to 90-10.

Presumably that's the same 90-10 that were initially voting primarily for Hillary, right?

I never saw that she was polling 90-10 with blacks before SC. IIRC, I seem to remember her polling in the mid 60s? or thereabouts.
But then she made this "offensive statement"...
"Dr. King had been on the front lines. He had been leading a movement. But Dr. King understood, which is why he made it very clear, that there has to be a coming to terms of our country politically in order to make the changes that would last for generations beyond the iconic, extraordinary speeches that he gave. That's why he campaigned for Lyndon Johnson in 1964. That's why he was there when those great pieces of legislation were passed. Does he deserve the lion's share of the credit for moving our country and moving our political process? Yes, he does. But he also had partners who were in the political system."
Isn't that shameful?

I am kind of ashamed to say that it never occurred to me before to care what happens in West Virginia. Is it wrong to think that racism places a BIG role in a loss by about 40 percentage points? It is hard to imagine how we can come to some kind of a consensus on anything when basic, fundamental beliefs are so different. For example, I believe that racism is wrong, we shouldn't pander to racists as a way to win over republicans, and I believe that we shouldn't count that were made by people with the belief that they would not count. I really didn't know I'd end up having such fundamentally different beliefs than Hillary Clinton. I really don't want to just bash Hillary for the fun of it... I am not trying to be negative and divisive, but if Obama can't seal the deal with racists, it's because Hillary is helping them out. Also, by the way, what better excuse to be racist than to hide it under the guise of being a feminist?

word missing from above rant. "votes." We shouldn't count votes that were made...."

Wait, is that "your" vote, or "you're" vote?
I didn't go to a 4-year college, so I'm not really sure.

I think exposure to Hillary may have given you a Hillary allergy. I'm pretty sure that's what happened to me, and judging from your comment in another thread (RE: Her flip-floppingly new-found religion on MI and FL), it sounds like you and I have some of the same symptoms...

You mean like in South Carolina?

I was just about to post something on here about how hard working I am. Just because I have a few college degrees doesn't mean I don't work hard. Then I realized I am sitting at work not working but instead reading this blog. Damn, Hillary is right. Their votes should count for more than mine.
