Open Casting Call For VP
With Obama having all but sewn up the Dem nomination, speculation now turns toward who will get the nod for the second spot. Having little left to argue over, this is sure to become the next hot topic of the day. Should it be Hillary? Hegel? Richardson? Sebelius? Edwards II? Traditionally, when looking for a Veep, candidates have sought to balance the ticket, making up for some perceived deficit in their own support or hoping the selection helps deliver a state or region where the nominee appears weak. Bill Clinton upended that reasoning with his selection of Gore, another moderate southern Democrat, although one with experience in the federal government he lacked. On the other hand, Kerry’s pick of Lieberman, a closet Republican, didn’t help all that much. Bearing all this in mind, I have come up with a modest list of the criteria Obama should use to make this critical decision. In the interest of balancing the ticket, the VP nominee should be:
** White
** Foul mouthed
** Old
** Female
** High School Grad
** Blue Collar
** Catholic (or maybe Jewish?)
** With distinguished military experience
** Southern or Southwestern
** Fiercely partisan
** Supported the war (preferably without apology)
** Willing to say or do anything to win
Please feel free to add to this list or make suggestions based on these criteria.

Just to correct the typo: "Kerry’s pick of Lieberman..."

Um, I am retarded?
Unfortunately, there is no recall.
My idiocy is on display for all to see.
Good thing no one recommends my trifling posts.

Lieberman didn't help Gore.
And Edwards didn't help Kerry either. He still got creamed in the South.

As for the "casting call" I agree with most of what is said above. Especially the Former Military part. I think having a serious military VP offers the best chance of Bringin' 'em Home ASAP.
Here's a re-vamp of what I wrote on another post:
OBAMA / IRONMAN 2008!! :)
The pick will be a 50-60 y.o. white male ret. military General or Admiral, possibly former Republican with a gravely voice, the sense of humor of Jeff Foxworthy, the debating gravitas of Dick Cheney, and the unquestionable patriotism of "American Dad" or Jack Bauer.
Obama is revolutionary enough. He needs a solid rock on which to plant his flag of change, bipartisanship, and hope & inspiration.
GRAVITAS.
MILITARY.
STABLE / REASSURING.
Obama's weak points are 1) he's "Too Exotic", 2) supposedly "Anti-American", and 3) "too inexperienced / Empty Suit."
He needs to combat this with a strong, strong VP. Apple Pie eater with an ability to Stop the fake FoxNews attacks with a stern "Grow Up. We have work to do. Lead, follow or get out of the way, the Democrats are taking over." I hate Cheney, but he mopped up in all his debates against Liebs and Edwards. Even though he was lying, he had stern gravitas.
This election is about 1) Iraq, and 2) correcting the serious policy blunders (home & abroad). He can't pick a VP for a narrow swing-state or a special-interest vote grab.
Foreign policy and grave-seriousness trumps all. I believe the electorate feels that the troops' lives depend on it.
OBAMA / IRONMAN 2008!!

How about Roseann Barr?

Roseanne Barr has a serious National Anthem problem. Don;t see it meshing well with Barack's flag pin stance...

Louisville1975: I know you're an Indians fan. CC Sabathia's pitching today. My Fantasy Team's in 2nd to last place, so if he gets a win and an ERA below 6.00 (I know it'll be tough for him), then I might jump into 3rd to last place. PS - Please talk some sense into Hafner as well. Where's he been for the past 1.5 seasons?

Not to worry. CC will be fine. Had 3 good outtings. If you took Hafner then go light a candle at church. He's either not seeing the ball and not changing his hitting style to meet the changes the pitchers have made on him. Once summer comes and Jimmy Leyland blows his top in Detroit there should be some bats around to pick up. We'll see. Just wish the Red Sox actually had to play in a competitive division.

I didn't pick Hafner. I just hate to see him waste his talents...

She would make a fine choice. Perhaps a better one, though, would be Rama Yade, the French State Secretary in charge of foreign affairs and human rights. There would also be the added advantage of the bumper sticker, Obama Rama.
