OBAMA: Michelle On The Stump For Her Man But Don't Ask Her Questions

On a stump stop by the congenial studios of ABC, Barack and Michelle Obama engaged in a little tete' a tete appearing [if any] simply to turn down the heat a little on the campaign drama most certainly dogging his campaign of late. On the set of GMA [Good Morning America] Barack set the stage for what would certainly call an attack. That is to say he would call it an attack... not actually that it was one.  The Tennessee GOP is engaging the public with media aimed at letting them know the character of the the candidates wife, and for some odd reason, that seems to be an issue for Mr. Obama spouting "The GOP [should I be the nominee] I think can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record" adding "if they think that they are going to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable" - to the voters that would consider him, maybe they found his wife's words unacceptable. Has he ever considered that? "for them to try to distort or play snippets of her remarks that are unflattering to her" he went on to say "it is just low class".

Maybe the American people Mr. Obama think a woman that has had the fortune of a first rate education, and the beneficiary of the many blessings that can bring found her comments a little low class, and certainly not post black... as you have been falsely touted as being. I firmly believe what enters the arena belongs in the arena, so as they say - don't start none, won't be none. No one told Michelle what to say but Michelle. Why shouldn't' she be held accountable for her blatantly anti-American comments? Hillary has had far more thick skin in this game so far; and really reveals a stunning naivetĂ© on his behalf. Apparently Mr. Obama wants his cake.... but Michelle [like Hillary] may be the one to eat it in the end.

Cindy McCain is on the stump for John McCain, but don't ask her to release her income tax. John McCain is on the stump for Grampa Munster, but don't ask him to release his medical records.

Darn Republican.

Did Oprah release her taxes? Did Chelsea?

And that has to do with anything, why?

This is not about financial disclosure by one's supporters it is about spouses. Stop trolling

Amber was less than specific.

I agree, what is good for th e goose, cartainly is good for the gander [vice versa actually] - I am soft on McCain, he's to centrist for my taste's on social issues. But his wife's finances i agree shoul dbe public as everyone else's.

Par don the typo I was using my PDA!

"Darn Republican's" last post had 74 Comments, and 0 Recommendations. I'm guessing the pattern will hold true for this post too.

Cindy McCain must release her tax returns. Michelle is unfairly being accused of hating America. No one's accusing Cindy of being deposited on earth by "The Phoenix Lights" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhAQrR8Jhkk) and demanding a special counsel investigation. All Cindy needs to do is what every other potential first lady has ever done in the history of the Republic.

I am a fair, balanced and [above all] objective blogger, regardless of politics. Did you read the article? I am not bickering at you... but in context, the recommendations were obvious from the critiques of the High Courts decision. So, no pontification here.

"Fair and Balanced blogger." Only in the sense of Fox News.

Tennessee will lose more than it gains.

Take a page from Chuck Hagel. Leave the Republication reactionary mindset and join the human race.

Only an idiot is still talking about Michelle Obama's words AND twisting to fit into their stupidhole. Honestly, if you're going to talk about this at least refer to the entire sentence, otherwise acting petulant about half a sentence makes you look like a half-wit.

Not so.. only an idiot would dismiss them. Sorry the cheese is sliding you you Obamite's cracker. The man's a fraud. I feel sorry for the people who genuinely invested in thinking he was post black.

avatar

Does that mean that you think context is idiotic?

How many drunk driving deaths is the beer distributing heiress McCain responsible for? Her blood money private jet is funding her husband's campaign with those free flights, and sunshine needs to illuminate those tax returns.

And what about beer distributors? They are an awful antiquated middleman created by government that need to be cut out.

That was actually funny.

Darn Repub, I think you have a point here. As an Obama supporter and a feminist, I would have appreciated hearing Michelle stand up for herself. I understand the need for Barack to call out the Repub attack machine, but still--it's 2008, Hillary's chewing the scenery, and Michell's a strong, intelligent woman. Because this snippet will never die, she'll probably have to come up with a good response to block with on the campaign trail.

I agee. She tried redefining "really" and that didn't work. Family is off limits won't work either. She should just be her bitter self and roll the dice.

You are such a cork soaker. You really think it's legitimate to ask people to prove they love their country?

The lowest of low forms of political discourse is to twist someone's words to use as an attack against their loyalty to their own country. Joe McCarthy and Richard Nixon would be proud of you.

Next we should ask her why she secretly hates white people? Then, how hard is it to pretend that your husband is not a Muslim? Do you know or have you ever known a member of the Communist party? Why do you hate America, bitch? Huh? Huh?

You know, she could have just gotten up there and talked about baking cookies and getting the kids off to school and life would have been grand.

But she didn't. Blame someone else.

LMAO!

avatar

She's a hell of a lot nicer than Hillary, and doesn't hallucinate sniper attacks. A step up, in my opinion. And anybody who feels that all the U.S. has done in the world are things to be unfailingly proud of, really needs to read up on our history.

CNIC,

You get points for being level headed... Look, anyone can visibly see the difference between how Michelle came out, and all the other wives - she was mad, black and on the attack. Was there really any other way to look at it? Barack should be ashamed of himself for admonishing people for having the correct natural response to an attack.

Bad puddy tat!

Like I always say - if ya' step on a land mine, best get used to hoppin'

Lets see then, I guess that means Cindy McCain's prior acts of theft of narcotics from the non-profit she created (which bought narcotics for poor folks) is all fair game, as well as the wonderful character she showed in her role of playing adulteress while McCain was still married to his prior wife. Oh yes, and then there was her firing of the subordinate who discovered she was stealing narcotics. Cindy is clearly a proud upstanding american. Thief, adultress, drug addict and retaliatory boss all roled up into one.

Though I understand your point, but your facts of not good; they are off! There was no fact in your rant - at all. Cindy McCain non-profit has stood the test of audits and public scrutiny and is certainly a lot less suspect than say - Moveon.org - and they are a non-for profit, and they definitely have issues.

Not so fast.

What? You we're going to interject something other than conjecture?

I didn't say that Cindy McCain should be immune from questioning. She definitely should release her taxes.

I'm talking about the Democratic nominee's spouse--obviously there's a higher standard here. What--do we want our candidate's spouse to play like a Republican wife? I don't.

avatar

The only person who need answer questions is the candidate. Period. Obama's wife is no more running for office than is Chelsea Clinton, or McCain's wife.

Yes, and the candidates should be selected strictly on their merits. Let's be real--how would this actually play out in an election? How handicapped would a male candidate be if his wife refused to speak to the press?

Now, granted, usually the spouses can get away with lightweight, celebrity-style appearances. However, Michelle Obama, like Cindy McCain, is already an actor on the public stage and the press will talk about her. Should she act coy and refuse to speak for herself?

avatar

What Obama said is about the stupidist thing I've ever heard anyone (besides Bush) say! What you gonna do Obama if someone attacks your mamma? What you gonna do Obama? Who cares if you find that unacceptable! You gonna get down on them. You gonna get all bad and put your finger in their face and kick their butts? Ooooh, be all scared of Obama.

avatar

Why use slang, Kanne? Why use words like "mamma," "gonna," "get all bad" and "be all scared" when Obama clearly does not speak that way? Why not try to match his eloquence and maturity instead of resorting to the linguistic equivalent of blackface?

Obama would appear to be "eloquent" to you, he's as sharp as a wet napkin. But, hey... it's a free country right?

avatar

Ah yes, the old ad hominem, dodging points since 200 B.C.

avatar

Because it conveys a logical response to Obama's challenge to the challenge of taking on his wifes silly statements! Don't ya think?

I think that Obama has smelled his own fumes so much to the point that he feels he is set apart from the rules. That is what I think, he doesn't handle adversity too well. When the stream is swimming his way - it's all goos as they say, but let him have swim up stream - catastrophic break down, and Grand Mal hissy fit.

You are delusional. All he has ever been is cool. Hissy fit?

Oh, joy... you Greekers are a trip. We [conservatives] don't get delusional, we get informed - objectively [I might ad]. See,I have nothing to gain or loose by either candidate winning th eDNC annointing [as it were] so I can be quite objective in pointing out the glaring land mines they end up tripping themselves up with at a later time.

I think Obama made an effective but mainstream response to an attack. He looked and sounded pretty calm. Don't make me swear at you, DR!

Unfortunately for you [as is the case with you lefties] you give to many points for style and ignored the substance of what he said. Are you aware of what causes controversy? His comments were provocative, obviously more that just you and I found them to be just that, don't make me break a mirror out? LOL!

avatar

'Well, darn Republican, maybe you can use your influence to ask them that if they are going to run the Michelle quote, that at least they find the video (it exists) where the word "really" isn't clumsily
edited out. As can be heard if you listen closely to the video the
Tenn Repub party is using. Which, I assume will be the one for the whole campaign. So why are they using a version that has a word deliberately edited out? A word that suggests "degree" and not, as you and your bunch would like to state, an "absolute". So, don't lecture Obama until you lecture your own people first about honesty.

Well, I guess you run with what you got - remember in war, you're not worried about how you hit the enemy... just that you hit them, and hit them hard.

I might suggest facing up to the inevitable reality that the Obama-San Brand Joy Juice is slowly wearing off.

avatar

Which is why we attacked Iraq for having WMDs and harboring Al Quaeda...

Oh yeah, it didn't, just as she didn't say what you said she did.

avatar

Well DR, if you really are a Republican instead of just another anti-Obama hack, why not base your comments on the traditions of your party? David Broder lamented the treatment received by the Office of the President from Bill Clinton, famously saying the Clintons came to Washington DC and "trashed the place", including their casual attitude toward Presidential formality and Hillary Clinton's move away from the traditional First Lady role. That tradition includes the courtesy paid to the families of the candidates within the discourse of the campaign, however rough it may be.

From your comment, "remember in war, you're not worried about how you hit the enemy... just that you hit them, and hit them hard" I can assume you're really just a partisan and happen to be 'against' either the Democrats and/or Obama. If you really are a Republican, then try and be a little more rational in your comments about a candidate who would like to 'conserve' your own party's traditions in relation to the office.

While you're at it, why do you hate America? You really consider this election a war and can legitimize whatever you need to do to win? Have you ever taken the Pledge of Allegiance... you know... "one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"? Or are those just vapid words meant for sporting events to you?

Sorry, I didn't mean to take one sentence from your many blog replies and make cake... how does it taste?

As a liberal you are well schooled int he art of sophistry... but are no where near the point with me, see - I am what you call a social conservative. I could give a flying-left-toenail about RNC politics, I am loyal to values. My problem is this gross projection you kind of waft out there like a bad spate of gas after a bag chili-dog, you said:

"While you're at it, why do you hate America?"

If I understand the nature and context of your comments - you belong to the voice of Americana politics that is pointedly non-American in it's approach to life itself. So, because with them there comments pal. I am clear on my politics and clear on my values - and none of them have me pointing the direction of living to subvert them or the country that makes them have meaning & quality. The left does not believe in justice for all, but "just us" is that myopic sliver of acceptance you guys tend to broad base pass off as "open minded" - if that's open minded, kindly pas me the clam sauce. I'm not dogging you out, but man... that comment was deeply misplaced.

Pardon - I'm typing on a PDA and its a pain sometimes for error checking, my apologies.

avatar

So your answer is "no, because, because... umm, because you're a liberal!"?

Cute, you said it not me.

Haiku time:

Lastly, is that rose'?

Oui.

Tisk, tisk, tisk...

Funny how today a TN Repub Sen - said it's a stupid and ridiculous attack - get on the same page.

I never argued the validity of the attack, however... I don't trust anyone from the Land of Gore. I just said what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Stop feeding the idiot troll.
