Nancy Pelosi To Step In If Needed
05-28) 20:17 PDT San Francisco
-- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she will step in if necessary to make sure the presidential nomination fight between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama does not reach the Democratic National Convention - though she believes it could be resolved as early as next week.Pelosi predicted Wednesday that a presidential nominee will emerge in the week after the final Democratic primaries on June 3, but she said "I will step in" if there is no resolution by late June regarding the seating of delegates from Florida and Michigan, the two states that defied party rules by holding early primaries.
"Because we cannot take this fight to the convention," she said. "It must be over before then."

Clinton has now taken Kentucky … Nevertheless, Montana, South Dakota and Puerto Rico are still to come.
The Democratic race for nomination is still very much alive and most likely to be decided by superdelegates If you haven't done so yet, please write a message to each of your state's superdelegates at http://www.lobbydelegates.com
If you’re tired of waiting around for those super delegates to make a decision already, go to LobbyDelegates.com and push them to support either Clinton or Obama

What can Pelosi actually do?
And, do we want her to do anything? She's a congressional rep. I've never voted for her for anything. So I can't say I'm thrilled at the prospect of her stepping in and deciding who the nominee will be.

My question as well. What will Pelosi do? She's not the boss of anyone.

Stepping up to ratify the will of the People is exactly what the job of party leaders is & should be. Once it is clear (which it really already is) who the people's choice is the party leaders have an absolute responsibility to protect the party from catastrophe & if she (Pelosi) can accomplish that one simple task it will go a long way with Democratic voters.

I just read the article. I found many of Pelosi's statements to be very odd. Particularly this:
So let me get this straight: Nancy Pelosi is the final arbiter of this entire process? This whole thing comes down to a single act by the Speaker of the House? Is there some quirk of the nominating process that I'm unaware of? This just makes no sense to me.

NOTHING. I repeat, NOTHING is going to stop Hillary from attempting a convention coup of sorts.
Every single remaining undeclared delegate could declare for Obama on June 4th and she STILL will attempt to overturn the primary result at the convention.

It won't matter. If Obama has the delegates, he'll be nominated on the first ballot and Hillary will be left looking like the insane, batty harridan that she truly is.

new10: I agree with this doomsday situation. We're witnessing doomsday.
To hrebendorf, I say it matters because the convention has to be harmonious, and the message has to be clear. We Democrats haven't been the best at giving forceful and coherent messages these past few years.

perhaps what nancy pelosi is saying is she will deliver the message to hillary that its over and reid and gore and everyone else will be there to watch hillary make her concession speech.
