More on Clinton going right wing all the way

avatar

This is a link, via Andrew Sullivan, to a Michael Tomasky post in the Guardian pointing out more to illustrate Clinton as the Bush stand-in.  Do you think maybe the Clintons decided that those of us in the rest of the country wouldn't find out what they were doing? http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/michael_tomasky/2008/05/hillarys_right_turn.html

Gee, someone describes her as tough using a typical piece of male anatomy and that makes her "right wing"? As Demi Moore said, "suck my d***". (Just quoting her, not intending this as an epithet).

And until the last week, I never heard the word "pansy" associated with gay. Weak and effeminate, yes. I.e. girly men, to quote Arnie. So how does this make Hillary "right wing"? She either gets ascribed with society's preferred male qualities or she gets slammed for being too much a woman. Or she gets both - hysterical, that time of month, etc. Remember when she fought off the 4 other candidates and the biased Russert? "Playing the gender card". Oh well, you can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself.

BS.

Obama is using Rove tactics.

Get real.

You're lying, they're lying. I guess that's what attracts you to them.

(Kantor may deny he was speaking of the people of Indiana, but others in the past have heard otherwise. A November 1993 article on the movie by Washington Post film critic Desson Howe made note of its realism, saying, "Whether Carville and company are play-acting somewhat for the cameras becomes less important as the film progresses. One can only keep up an act for so long -- especially in the throes of a campaign. Carville's tearful farewell speech to his staff as they close up just before the election, Stephanopoulos's frank talk with a potential blackmailer and a Mickey Kantor comment about the people of Indiana (when it looks as though Clinton's ahead in Dan Quayle's state) attest to this.")

First of all, I've always loved the term "testicular fortitude". In this case it's a compliment of the strongest kind in the language of the people she's targeting. The language of politics and power is full of references to male genitalia. What do you expect? After all, she's aiming her message at white working class guys.

I'm a second-generation feminist, and have worked in male-dominated professions as a gender pioneer all my life. Feminized descriptors at are almost always disparaging. When someone says I have balls, they mean I have guts in a good way.

All contests in American life are gendered. Someday those white guys will have grown up with women at work and not be so comfortable with references to genitalia. But not yet.
