Hillary's Nuclear Umbrella

More from "This Week":

STEPHANOPOULOS: So who would be eligible to come under the U.S. nuclear umbrella?

And what would they have to do to get that protection?

CLINTON: The theory that I'm putting forth is, we have to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. We have to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons throughout the region, because I'm not so concerned about them falling into the hands of states, which is bad enough, as I am about falling into the hands of terrorists.

Because what you just said about Iran -- Iran is a state. It's an institutional being. That's why it is deferrable. Al Qaida is not. So we cannot permit there to be proliferation of nuclear weapons.

So, instead of having Saudi Arabia saying, well, you know, Iran and we are, you know, not on the same page here; we've got to have our own weapons, what we want to work toward is some kind of security agreement to prevent that proliferation.

Hillary first floated the idea of extending protection to Saudi Arabia in the ABC debate a few weeks ago. It was largely ignored in the messy aftermath that focused on the sins of Stephanopoulos and Gibson, it was notable because it was something bold and new.

But is it a good idea? He she come forward with any kind of concrete proposal, or was an off-the-cuff remark meant to establish political "creativity and strength?"

I find it strange that this has been so little remarked on. To me the obvious comeback line would've been, "You mean you want the US to increase its role in the Middle East, and provide an umbrella of protection to the country that was home to 15 of the 19 Sept. 11th hijackers?

But neither Obama nor the media went there.

Help me understand. Does the idea make sense? Do the politics make sense? Or not.

Finally, would you buy a CD by a retro-psychedelic band named Hillary's Nuclear Umbrella?

Since our involvement in the Middle East has been going so well, why not expand it?

Senator Obama has a better approach. He wants to to concentrate on seeking a solution that would persuade Iran not to develop Nuclear weapons.

Hillary, appears to have given up on that approach.
She has already conceded that Iran will end up with Nukes.
That makes her unfit to be Commander in Chief.

Here is where Hillary stands on the issue. Notice that she said "during the next ten years". Is Hillary planning on being President for more than two terms.

Clinton on an Iran Attack: 'Obliterate Them'
Clinton further displayed tough talk in an interview airing on "Good Morning America" Tuesday. ABC News' Chris Cuomo asked Clinton what she would do if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons.

"I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran," Clinton said. "In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."

Hillary did not say one word about making sure that Iran does not develop the Nuclear weapons, but instead went right to the "Obliterate" option.

Ready on day One, My Arse!!!

No it doesn't make sense. The politics are a disaster, so much so that Iran protested her statement to the UN. The UN's Secretary General has since stated that he will reprimand her for that warmongering statement (right, big deal) should she actually get elected.
But, hey, she's not thinking about the UN. That's for sissies. She thinking about those warmongering guys who she's trying to reach by campaigning from the backs of pick-up trucks.
Like so much of the HRC presidential bid, this new, so-called Iran policy is downright disgusting.

It's not different from her Iraq vote: She feels like she has to run as "tougher than the Republicans" so she'll say or do anything to appear that way. As Senator Obama has frequently pointed out, trying to "out-tough" John McCain, war hero, bomber pilot and former POW makes about as much sense as tyring to "out-experience" him. It would be nice to have a President who put some emphasis on being... thoughtful, informed, intelligent, and RIGHT about issues, rather than just having the toughest posturing.
