Hillary's Key Word: Nominee (She's NOT getting out in June)

avatar

Hillary Clinton announced last night in Kentucky that she's in this race, "I'm going to keep making our case until we have a nominee, whoever SHE may be.''

Please not the word NOMINEE.  She doesn't say the words, "the candidate to hit the magic number first."

Even if a candidate should get to that magic number of 2026 (Current DNC rules), they are not considered the actually 'nominee' until all the delegates vote at the Democratic convention in August.

So for those of you, like myself, that were fooled into believing that Hillary would be getting out of the race after the June 3rd primary -- forget about it.

I'm guessing that Hillary's team decided a couple of weeks ago that they would 'imply' that Hillary 'just wants to let all voters across the nation to have a chance to vote in this historical race.  She probably promised Howard Dean and Donna Brazile and others of the Party that she would "refrain from any personal attacks again Barack Obama."

She also probably said something to the effect, "Look at the people we are registering in these primaries, these voters can help us in November, the more the merrier.  Allow me to continue to running and we'll get even more voters registered"

In reality however, Hillary wanted to get as many votes as possible to add to her popular vote count and get within perhaps 100 delegates of the final number.  She would at the same time "shame" the Party into allowing for Florida and Michigan votes to be included.

When June 4th rolls around, even if Obama has the 2026 required delegate count or even a new DNC delegate count because of FL and MI, Hillary will announce that because of where she stands with over 19 million voters, she's decided to stay in the race and wait to see how the delegates vote at that convention, "anything could happen between now and then", she will say.  "I promised a lot of folks that I would be in this race till the end.  I keep my promises and I'm not a quiter"

Don't let Hillary and Bill fool you -- she's in this race to the very end.  If it causes the Party to lose the election in November, so be it -- "I'm within my rights.", she'll say.

If Barack Obama and his supporters, along with any super delegates, truly plan on winning this nomination -- they'd best be getting to that magic number of 2026 -- BEFORE -- May 31st when the Party meets, or risk having any sort of leverage against Hillary R. Clinton.

Actually, the way you get a nominee is the delegates vote at the convention. Not a big deal. You finish all the primaries, go to the convention, have that first ballot, and maybe Obama wins. Just democracy. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

Clinton certainly has the right to take the fight to Denver, but if she does, the Dems will likely lose in November. This has been the out come in previous convention fights. It really becomes a question of what is the right thing for Hillary Clinton to do.

It is frustrating, disappointing, and heartbreaking that Hillary - driven by corporate greed, power, or perhaps anger - is determined to destroy this opportunity for Democrats to win back the White House and destroy the chances of electing a leader with a rare gift to inspire. She is trying to smother an authentic youth movement inspired by Obama's message.

I don't believe she is still in it to win it. She must know this primary contest has damaged her electability more than it has damaged Obama; although, she has done a number on him. Nope, she is doing this for sport or revenge - take your pick. I have grown to despise the Clintons, and I have lost all respect for the Democratic leadership. They should have ended this train wreck weeks ago. One thing is certain. The voters need to clean house and put some effective leaders in office. We do pay them to actually do something on our behalf. Allowing the Clintons to engage in a scorched earth policy for this nomination is hardly in our best interest.

Watch out! Sky is falling!

If Hillary would just get out the race early, Obama could get on with getting attacked for 6 months by McCain and the Republicans, making him much stronger.

My point is, which I think you already know, Hillary's implying she will drop out of the race and assume that Obama wins it (just as Edwards, Huckabee and Romney did).

She's lying.

She's just stated this afternoon that she COULD take this FL and MI thing all the way to the convention.

She's NOT giving IN as everybody ASSUMES she is.

She's costing us the election - plain and simple -- for her OWN pleasure.

It's payback time - she's TICKED at Obama and the DNC for her LOSS.

I never heard her imply she would drop out. All I heard is the opposite, including reading her full speech today in Florida.

In fact i think democracy means she should do exactly what you suggest.

We'll see what happens on June 4th.

We'll see what the superdelegates do.

We'll see who Jimmy Carter and Albert Gore, Jr. endorse.

We'll see what Walter Mondale does on that day, and whether he and George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, John Edwards, and many more are all publicly and diplomatically calling on her to concede this thing, for the good of the party.

I only hope that everyone remains gracious enough to avoid a scenario that would give us all nightmares: Her exit might happen with such rancor that she leaves the party..

..and declares an independent ticket with Joe Lieberman.

That would surely give McCain the White House.

Wow, send in the gang of losing candidates to tell her how to concede gracefully?

I'd rather hear from Howard Dean.

It's better to burn out, 'cause rust never sleeps.
The king is gone but he's not forgotten.

Al Gore and Jimmy Carter didn't lose.

Carter lost re-election.

and Al Gore only lost by a court decision; he didn't actually lose the election.
