GOP Can't Make Up Its Mind About Hitler
Would the Republicans make up their fucking minds already about Hitler? I mean, last week when the Republican President was in Israel, Obama was Chamberlain. W seemed to assert that Hitler was bad, that you shouldn't appease evil.
This week, with Pastor Hagee, whose endorsement McCain fervently sought and proudly championed, and who still speaks for some part of the GOP base (else why did the GOP standard-bearer seek his endorsement), repudiated or not, Hitler was the hunter chosen by God to foster the establishment of Israel. Hitler as an instrument of God. If this seems unfair criticism of McCain, please consider that McCain, when previously pressed as to why he stood by Hagee's endorsement, only two weeks ago actually cited Hagee's views concerning Israel. So which is it, McBush, and your McBase? I always thought Hitler the most evil human in history, but McBush and their McBase can't decide between Hitler good and Hitler bad.
I guess since Hagee's comment was first, the GOP was for Hitler before it was against Hitler.
Sounds like a form of argument every bit as fair as Saxby Chambliss/Karl Rove's argument that paraplegic veteran and Democratic Senator Max Cleland (who lost three limbs in Nam while Saxby stayed home, like W and Cheney) coddled terrorists.
This fall is going to be fun, folks.

Hitler, unfortunately, faces extremely stiff competition for the title of the most evil human in history. If you went strictly by the number of people killed, Stalin would likely be in the top spot. When it comes to sheer brutality, Pol Pot is a strong contender. Mao isn't without chances either. There were a few African dictators whose impact was not so wide, but perhaps evil is an art form, not just about statistics.
And that's only the 20th century...

It definitely was. And I don't think his time is over, not by a long shot.

Actually I think the R's are pretty consistent in their feelings. Chamberlain was a wuss appeaser, but Hitler? There was a guy who knew how to use phony propaganda, cheap patriotism (more flags! more flag pins!) and a large well trained army to launch a war against anyone he damn well felt like.

I can see the new GOP ads in November... "Hitler wore flag pins, are you saying you're worse than Hitler?"

Don't give them any ideas.

It says everything that they have a love/hate relationship with the Nazis.
They say that political ideology isn't a line but a circle. I've always thought those two were close together on that circle - and not all that uncomfortable with it.

Oh come on guys. Republicans are not pro-Hitler. Thats the kind of crap they throw at us. R's do have major issues with nationalism, ethnocentrism, amd militarism; but these traits apply to many political parties across the globe.
Be careful about throwing around the "H" word. Nazism is a very specific socio-political ideology, and misusing it distorts our historical memory of it.
