Fission Accomplished

avatar

It is almost inconceivable that exactly five years have passed since George W. Bush had his magical “Mission Accomplished,” moment on board the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Ironically, Lincoln’s war, The Civil War, didn’t even last five years. The Civil War in Iraq is doomed to live on for far more years than that.

Bush has gotten us into an untenable quagmire in Iraq and John McCain has promised us he has no intention of getting us out of there in this century.

Already, the conflicts in Iraq and Afghahastan have gone on longer than any conflicts in American history except for the Revolutionary War and the War in Vietnam.

As scary as the past five years have been, the next five could be a whole lot more frightening.

McCain is champing at the bit to get his hands on our weapons of mass destruction. Under McCain, the draft will be reinstated, our presence in the Middle East will expand, and hostilities are certain to escalate.

It is not out of the question that in the McCain presidency, we can make the leap from “Mission Accomplished,” to “Fission Accomplished.”

But how will we obliterate Iran if we don't have our troops in Iraq?
