DEMOCRATIC PARTY IMPLOSION!!! DISASTER LOOMS!
I had an interesting conversation tonight with a journalist friend who works for the Georgia Informer.
It was interesting because it brought to light somethings that are subtly going on in African-american circles but have not been picked up by the mainstream media (MSM).
According to her, there is a growing movement in the circle to assess “their blind loyalty” to the democratic party and that the “Friend of Jackson” robocall was just a tip off. I learnt (and, this source is very reliable) that there would be unexpected repercussions if the nomination is “stolen” from Obama. Make no mistake, the African-american politicians up for re-election will be still be backed en masse, but the aim of the movement is to back other nominees (non democratic party nominees) who are on the ballot this November. For example, in Virginia’s 2nd district, the republican candidate Thelma Drake will be supported (African Americans make up 20% of her district). Others being targeted include Thomas Davis’ open seat, Deborah Pryce’s open seat, Steve Chabot’s seat, Robert Haye’s seat, James Saxton’s open seat, Jim McCrery and Don Cazayoux’s seats and Jim Marshal and john Barrow’s seats.
These are districts with high African American populations that will be won should Obama be the nominee and, if the plans goes on as planned, will result in a republican majority (if Obama is not the nominee).
While the details of this “operation” has not been finalized, it is certainly gaining momentum. According to my source, serious talks actually started last weekend in North Carolina and it is still being debated if a PAC should be started. All this depends on whoever becomes the eventual nominee. Note that most national figures (Jackson, Sharpton and, even, Obama) are not involved in this movement, which was started by some faculty members at UNC.
I’m trying to get more information and will keep you posted.

This is such horseshit.

Why is it horseshit? Some African Americans, maybe not too many, have been wondering in recent years what their loyalty to the Democratic Party has been getting them -- just in the sense that the party might take for granted a voting bloc that comes out 90% for them in every election, choosing to devote its time and energy to woo "swing" voters. It's like some people in the labor movement, who've wondered if they might get more done if they decided not to line up in lockstep behind Democrats and instead forced politicians to vie for their support. I'm not saying that many black people are going to bolt to the Republican side, but just a percentage going to the GOP, the Greens or staying home could make a difference.

You just make this up as you go along, right?

Yeah, we'll well aware the Democratic party doesn't give two shits about us until election time. We know that the GOP doesn't give two shits about us even when election time is looming.
Black people are not like the "working-class white folk" Hillary's got on lockdown who tend to constantly vote against their interests because they're scared two women they don't know may want to get married.
But did you read this tripe? The diarist said there were "plans" afoot for blacks to storm out of the Democratic party. Please. That's such a joke. I have relatives who are active in their state's Democratic parties. I probably have more relatives who are superdelegates than anyone else in this country. Plans to leave? After all the hard work they've invested?
Horseshit. This diary is pure horseshit.

You know that game that's played where someone whispers something to another person who whispers it to someone else and so on to about 10 people to see what the last person says?
Ok. I think dayo is getting his info from the last few people. Plus, there's the annoying little fact that white Americans, even the pundits, come across as not understanding black politics.
You're right, there's not much talk of leaving the Democratic party. I don't think anyone is seriously considering voting for McCain. In fact, when I've talked about to a black voter, they usually say, "Well, what can we do? We can't vote for McCain." My advice, and what I plan to do should Clinton get the nomination, is to vote Dem down-ticket and for a 3rd party presidential candidate.
You're right about Republican regard for African American concerns. Their unfamiliarity and discomfort are apparent (Ie, the look on McCain's face when the old lady started dancing with him was hilarious!). So, there're no plans to actually vote for McCain. But from where I'm sitting, Clinton's arguments seems to be that she can win with white, working class and the Latino vote. She seems to be saying she won't need black voters in Nov, or that she thinks we'll come back to the fold after she sends Bill on tour with the Kings of Comedy or something. Let's hope she can. I won't vote for her. And I'll be more than happy to disuade the 5 people I have influence over from voting for her, too.
I'm open to arguments and disuasion, but currently I have NO intentions of voting for Clinton.

Yes, because all AA have a secret chip implanted in their brains that allows to organize an "operation" to wreak havoc on the political system. Yeah....

Well... this may be a part of the "conversation" that Senator Obama is encouraging us to have. Black people can tell the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
They can also tell the difference between candidates who are offering something they want, and those who aren't, regardless of the party. ( I don't think there's a lot of support in the black community for Clarence Thomas.)
It's not a mystery, they do it kind of the same way whites do.
I'm not sure what you're saying here... I keep reading it and each time, it makes less sense. Circles? Plans? Operations?
Either you're pulling our leg, or your journalist friend was having you on, or you're writing a very odd science fiction piece.

You reveal yourself.
...and, even, Obama.
That should have read especially Obama. The posting suggests disunity among democrats. Of the names mentioned Obama is the least likely to be promoting the theme you suggest.
Your liberal credentials sir, are much in question.

I can see disillusioned African-Americans staying home for elections, but outright voting for GOP candidates in a act of retaliation? Thats cutting off one's own nose to spite their face if I've ever seen it. I think your source is unreliable.

AA voters will stay home if HRC steals the nomination. No, they will not vote for McBush. "Staying home" is more than enough to defeat HRC's racist campaign and, unfortunately, put an equally racist John McCain the WH. HRC's "blue collar" argument is pure racism. Hate to tell her, but the blue collar bigot vote went to Reagan for a reason: the GOP is the party of bigots. What Obama is offering in 2008 is a party that rejects bigotry and truly demonstrates its dedication to real equality. Of course, that really scares white, blue collar, bigots.
