California poll results for the presidential race shows Obama leading

avatar

Hillary Clinton may have scored a solid win over Barack Obama in California's presidential primary on Feb. 5 (as she frequently likes to remind folks these days), but a new L.A. Times/KTLA poll finds he would fare better than she in the battle with John McCain for the state in November (a result the Clinton camp won't be touting).

Obama led McCain in the poll, 47-40%; in a Clinton matchup with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, she got 43%, he held steady at 40%.

One reason for pause for Democrats -- the margins for both of their candidates fall within the survey's error margin of plus-or-minus 4 percentage points (though in Obama's case, just barely).

Obama was leading by 14% (Zogby?)the day before he lost in California. The best you can do with polls is consolidate them all, a la Karl Rove or Jerome Armstrong and update the info constantly, including national and local polls.

Even that is not perfect but it is the best predictor. At least it has been... By that math (OK, I Know, it might be algebra) Hillary bests McCain w/ 326 electoral votes while Obama finally gets close to 270 w/ 269 this past week. His numbers have risen with all the "it's over" talk, (and I believe it will be possible for him to beat McCain) but amazingly, hers have far surpassed his in this same period, suggesting she could win with or without him!

What does that say about "it's over"?

HRC is actively encouraging her supporters to not support BO. Until she is gone and she vigorously campaigns for him, we will have misleading polls to cite. Until she is gone, no poll will give us a true idea of the actual match up.
