America needs the Clintons
We need Bill, running a fabulous foundation that does mighty work on mighty issues, using all his connections to make things happen that can't be done from inside government.
And we need Hillary in the Senate. We need someone as tenacious on health care as she's been in this race. We don't need either one of them tethered to an Obama administration's talking points, having to support policy they don't get to define.
Somehow, the Kennedy news helped me remember that, outside this race, both of them are positioned to play unique roles that I deeply admire. V.P. would be a waste of her talents and his.

Thanks for your perspective.
I live in NY and I've never seen Sen. Clinton fight on the Senate floor as strongly and defiantly as she does on the campaign trail.
Granted, when she was the first lady, she led the fight on health care. But she led it to death.
I'll have to disagree with your opinion on just how much we need her as a champion of legislation.

The funny thing is that in the Senate, while she has worked her ass off, she's done so in a much less combative, much more bipartisan/collaborative way then her behavior in this campaign would make you suspect.
She talks to people, she negotiates, she works towards common ground. The things Obama says he wants to do as President (and I certainly hope he can and will), she's been doing in the Senate.
And yeah, we do need that.

I'd rather see her as a long term lioness in the senate than VP. But I do think Obama will need her on the ticket to win in Nov. I can't think of a single replacement that would keep her supporters on board in the #s needed. I do see that much of Obama's support comes from people who hate her/Bill, and he has successfully painted her as "same-old-same-old" so he will have some work to do. Maybe Michelle can put back on the white shirt and black skirt and go tell AA folks she didn't mean it about Hillary being a racist.
