Act Now Obama Supporters, I've Made It Easy for You!

avatar

***Pass this on to fellow Obama supporters***

Today Hillary is sending out an email urging her supporters to tell the DNC to "count every vote." This is something she would never do if the candidates' delegate counts were reversed.

Contact the DNC today at this link Also choose "Election 2008" when you get to the "issue" box.

You can use the same message that I sent:

JUST SAY NO TO HILLARY's APPEAL.

From the September 2, 2007 NY Times:

“We believe Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina play a unique and special role in the nominating process,” Patti Solis Doyle, the Clinton campaign manager, said in a statement.

The pledge sought to preserve the status of traditional early-voting states and bring order to an unwieldy series of primaries that threatened to accelerate the selection process. It was devised to keep candidates from campaigning in Florida, where the primary is set for Jan. 29, and Michigan, which is trying to move its contest to Jan. 15.

Be fair to all states who are members of the Democratic Party and ensure that other states don't try to pull a Florida or Michigan on the party again.

Done!

The rules of the convention allow the party's nominee to petition for reinstatement of the delegates. While I understand MI was before Nveada & SC, Florida voted after the 4 major states that the DNC was so concerned about. No harm, no foul. What is the rational for not counting the voters in FL?

They tried to jump over, forcing all the others to move up to keep the order.

Did they again move the date to jump before SC? No - they kept it as is. The principle of IA, NH, NV & SC were first as Hillary's campaign had agreed to abide by. It's siily, petulant and undemocratic to disregard the voters of two states (over 2 million who voted) because the state parties didn't follow DNC guidance.

Ah, but there was harm done - New Hampshire moved its date to 2nd from 3rd, which is when Michigan then moved its date. So New Hampshire should be sanctioned, right?

Excellent catch that proves the hypocrisy of the DNC choosing to punish some states and let others break the co-called rules at will.

Thanks for the link. I used it to support Hillary.

I sent in an argument for Obama just to offset Billy Glad.

Thanks Laura,

My msg to the DNC:

Please do not reward MI and FL for trying to cheat the system by seating their entire delegations, counting all their delegates or allowing their irrelevant beauty contests to influence how we choose our nominee for president. It is dishonest and disingenuous for the Clinton campaign to change their minds after they've apparently failed to win the nomination in a fair fight and try to game the system by having these delegates seated in a way that benefits only Senator Clinton's ambitions.

We are the party that adheres to the rule of law. Changing the rules after the fact would outrage over half of our Democratic voters, disenfranchise 48 other state delegations who followed those rules, and leave us all trying to explain for months on end how we expect to manage the nation's affairs if we can't even make decisions within our own party stick.

I agree. North Carolina could have moved it's date too, but we followed the established rules. Hillary can't have the rules changed to here benefit, which has been a moving target for infinity. Seat the FL and MI delegates in a fair and proportional manner.

You always have been the smartest of the Obamanauts. They should let you steer the ship. Here's a fair way to seat them. Both on the ballet in FLA, he adverised there, she didn't, she gets her delegates and he gets his.

In Michigan, she gets the delegates she won and the ones Uncommitted won go to the convention uncommitted and vote any way they want.

What would be the objection to that?

I suggested giving Hillary 67% of the white vote, 8% of the black vote and 70% of the Hispanic vote. Edwards gets 7% of the white vote and Obama gets to keep the rest. But then again, I've been a bad chimp. Back on my stool.

Because the rules instituted by the Democratic Party clearly affected the way in which the candidates campaigned, which cannot be seen as not affecting the results.

As someone with no party affiliation, I won't comment on whether the rules were fair or not. But I will say that abiding by the rules is as much a guiding principle of our democracy as enfranchisement, and there are forums where those rules can be changed. Unfortunately, there is no place for those forums in the middle of a nominating contest, only before.

Thanks laura. Sent on my support of Hillary

there is strong objection to that b/c in case you were living under a rock, she ran uncontested b/c the only viable candidate at the time didn't have the name-recognition to change those votes. we will never know if mi or fl could have tipped edwards over the top or perhaps if given an opportunity to campaign (see past history), obama could have very well taken michigan and marginally lowered the gap in florida. to say that hrc won either fl or mi is totally disingenuous. if she was so concerned about the voters she would have agreed to obama's intial proposal. she is only happy if if it gives her a moral victory. i understand that fact, but why should obama accept anything less than what hrc hopes to gain from it.

i too want mi and fl to seat at least part of their delegates; however, we don't want to reward bad behavior. even though the results will not help hrc even if she steals mi and fl, it is morally wrong to allow her to keep her votes as they were uncontested. she was on the playing field all by herself and b/c she had the better known brand, the few sport fans who showed up immediately recognized her and started shouting out her name profusely (claiming the popular mantra). therefore, she scored a few shots, got a moral boost and claim that she bested her opponents who never even showed up for the game b/c they were told ahead of time that the game was cancelled. the players didn't forfeit; they in fact, followed the rules. she didn't in michigan. florida didn't count also b/c if obama doesn't campaign, he doesn't do well. i think she would have still won fl due to the latin vote; however, i think he would have eaten into her lead to the black caribbean vote-trust me they are voting and they have legal status down here!

no one is challenging her claim that she won mi and fl. if there is anything that disappointed me all along about obama's campaign was their soft-handling of mi and fl. they let her and the media stuff that folly down everyone's throat and it got undeserved traction. this is the kind of flip flopping that adds to an obama/hrc negatives! obama's people should have been more forceful in proving hrc flip flopped and put the dnc on the spot for being wussies!!! it sure pays to be a white woman in america, especially if you are married to ex-prez bill clinton. and we think hrc has been treated unfairly? i think not! she earned her positives and her negatives and there is no denying any of this. of course she has no control over those who hate her simply bc she is a woman, but my guess is they are much less than the racist!

i got carried away...sorry.... :-)

Is she really going away after the primaries?

I saw this on Jack and Jill. Freudian slip?
(It was about an interview Clinton did with Blitzer.)

"Because I know Hillary will slip a fast one in her comments that won't be caught until two days later, I found myself listening pretty closely and was wishing for YouTube when I heard her say:
"I will do my best to help the candidate from our party, should Barack (why can't she call him by his title and show some respect?)be the nominee; of course, I still hope I'm the nominee, but if not, then I'll do my best to help Senator McCain, er, Senator Obama in the general."
