A meaningless blog with no content.
Excuse the meaningless posting. I will attempt to remove this as soon as possible--I'm doing this simply to see where it will appear. All is so unclear. I can find no instructions, no FAQs, no nothin'. So I'm charging ahead boldly.
I will hope to have found and removed this before anybody reads this.
But that may not be possible. I hope I am wrong.

At least I found out where a blog posting appears. Othewise I am humiliated, embarrassed and degraded because I can't find a way to delete this.
Will I be forever known as the guy who can't figure it out? Is there no merecy? Are there no FAQs?

No way to delete, but don't worry about it.
When you get to talkingpointsmemo, if you click on TPMCafe in the top bar, when you scroll down you'll see two lists:
Recommended Reader Posts (posts that have been recommended by enough to make the list)
and Recent Reader Posts (which appear in order of posting, with the most recent at the top.)

Okay, here's the thing: where am I?
Is this my "blog" hidden somewhere in the basement of TPM Cafe? Or is this the cafe itself? The above communique from Alex39 leads me to believe that I'm standing in the window of the cafe while passers-by point and jeer.

I found you as the most recent reader post on the Cafe page...
but apparently you'll only show up at Muckraker or TPM if you get recommended more than the other posts...
now there's "nice pants" just popped up...
this should make sdure the street traffic doesn;t get caught up in the cafe discussions, what with some of our wild headlines...

Kinda.
May 8, 2008 6:26 PM | Reply | Permalink
No worries. Just play around with it for a bit and you'll catch on, and keep asking questions as they come.
You're already doing well - 3 recommends! :)
May 8, 2008 6:59 PM | Reply | Permalink
When you first post, it shows up in "Recent Reader Posts" in TPM Cafe, and if you check the "Muckraker" or "Election Central" boxes, it shows up there as well.
If it gets enough "recommends", it will show up in the "Recommended Reader Posts" at the top of the page.
There is no way to edit or delete once a post is entered.
You can't use HTML tags in the body of the post. After you enter all of your text, then you can go back and highlight areas and use the function boxes at the top of the window.
HTML works in the comments section.
Yes, it's all very arcane, but workable.
Welcome!

You could go a long way to reducing the animosity on the site by explaining the problems. At this point it's frustration from the TPM readers as a whole that's catapulted this post to #3 (i'm sure it'll be #1 in no time). I don't care what it is but if you told the truth about why it's taking so long to see any real progress in addressing the underlying problems on the site that have been in existence since January it'd help me to be more positive. As it is I'm starting to doubt TPM's commitment to quality.

Is there such a thing as "meaningless?" Content-free? Hardly. One can just read between the lines and find all kinds of content and meaning. The yearning to be accepted, the desire to fit in without sticking out. The fear of failure. The spirit community and cameraderie. The joie de vivre. A certain Kafka-esque feel of having to post but being unable to delete. The lost in the wilderness or "Through the Looking Glass" feeling of what is up is down and round is square. Hearing whispers in the dark and wondering aloud, "Is anybody there?" The surprise that we're all answering back... "I'm here." "Me, too!" "We're here. How about you?"

All I ever wanted to do was post a homemade graphic of the Wicked Witch skywriting the message "Surrender Hillary" across the clouds. It would have been real funny, particularly with the caption that refers to the threat of Flying Monkeys.
Now, after an afternoon of degradation so foul that people recommend that my humiliation be made public, I finally find out that I can't link to the graphic.

This whole episode reminds me of the day I told my first wife I was leaving her, stomped out of the apartment, got in my car and it wouldn't start. She heard me cursing and came outside with a screwdriver and adjusted the points.

eh, 99% of the content on this blog is idiotic blathering, and the other 1% is me.
well, a few more well considered thoughts on affirmative action. Certainly, I would not compare African-Americans to monkeys. Let's take for example the bar exam. THERE IS NO WAY A MONKEY COULD PASS THE BAR EXAM. End of discussion. Now let's look at the bar passage rate for Howard University's law school. It has averaged around 50% for years, some years dipping below 50%. Compare that to a third-tier state school like U of Idaho, where the bar passage rate is about 85%. Clearly, there is a pattern here. Let's examine the numbers:
Monkeys: 0%
AA elite: 50%
Potato farmers: 85%
Now there is no way for monkeys to improve their bar passage rate. However, for AAs, it's not genetis, IT'S INCENTIVES. Affirmative action and its accompaniaments are a system of perverse incentives actually. There is no incentive to excel or to perform well on tests that test problem-solving ability. There is every incentive to wear a FUBU sweatshirt and say dumb ignorant shit, pretending that it's cutting edge cultural theory, and to engage in empty pathetic exercises like exchanging Kwanza cards.
Solution: easy, just let AAs compete on an open playing field, like everyone else. I'm betting they could handle it.

I think that this thread is as good a place as any to evaluate the psychological (psychoticalogical?) motivations of Mila the Orgasmic Troll. This jerkoff has been banned so many times now that I've lost track. Yet still he re-registers under related screen names to post his racist, sexist, orgasm-referencing barbs. He's not an idiot in the simple sense of the word. He can string a sentence together, and the outrageous slurs seem calculated to offend. I think he knows exactly what he's doing. But I don't understand the why of it. Does he believe what he writes, or is it just designed to spark a reaction? Does he crave negative attention like a kid acting up in class? Is he a Republican trying to sow havoc? Or is he simply a schizophrenic off his meds?
May 9, 2008 10:32 AM | Reply | Permalink
I think he's a fat, repulsive, dimwit that has an alter ego he's trying to perpetuate. No one with the accomplishments it claims would state such utterly blatant ignorance.
No doubt it's been demoted by women and African Americans that are better educated, better looking, and harder working. Rather than trying to work harder, take a shower occasionally, and get educated, it looks for reason to despise. I'm sure it's days are full of dropping hate-bombs all over the blogesphere.
Same mentality as computer virus hacks, although this one doesn't even have THAT much talent.

Intriguing. As I recall, it claims to live in Russia, work in finance or something, and have sex with Russian women all the time. So it's pretending to be a rich, oversexed, ex-pat (who happens to spend a lot of time writing racist screeds on the internet). But that makes me lean more towards serious personality disorder as opposed to angry nerd. Or rather angry nerd with a personality disorder.

Nope, you sure aren't part of the idiotic blathering of this site.
May 9, 2008 12:06 PM | Reply | Permalink
University of Idaho law has a first time bar passage rate roughly 10 percent higher than Howard University. However looking at each schools' LSAT 25th and 75th percentile scores, as well as their median, this is not surprising as U of Idaho's is roughly 2-3 points higher in all categories.
More importantly, comparing the bar passage rates in Idaho to whatever bar in D.C. is necessary to practice law there is a little like comparing apples to goats.
If you really wanted to prove a point you should look at AA and caucasian results from the same schools where both subgroups had statistically the same LSAT scores and UGPAs. I'll save you some time and tell you you will not find statistically significant variations in bar passage rate.
Oh, forgot to add, die in a fire you race-bating scumbag troll. Stormfront misses you.

I did my undergrad at UofI and though the law school is separate I did have some interaction with the law school. They have an impressive program to say the least. They have a strong alumni and some of the best profs in the nation. There is a reason why people come to Idaho to retire and teach. It doesn't have a big name and I'm pretty sure they like it that way.

I've just returned from visiting the links listed above under "Cafe Features."
Oy.
"A Table for One," is where five or six people post. Shouldn't this be called "A Half-dozen People Fighting Over One Chair"?
And what's with "The Coffee House"? I'm in a Cafe, already, right? So why should I go to a Cafe? And when do, I get a list of recommended posts from May 1st. I'm starting to learn TPM language: "Cafe" means "last week" and "archives" means "the future."
I'm still trying to figure out "TPMCafe Book Club." The trick here seems to be that you engage in deep discussion about books but never mention the titles. Sure keeps the riffraff on their toes; sticking your head in there is like walking into a theater halfway through a Japanese movie dubbed into Farsi with Portuguese subtitles.
All I ever wanted to do--really--was post my homemade graphic of the Wicked Witch of the West skywriting "Surrender Hillary" across the clouds. Could anyone tell me how link to a graphic using English words and phrases that have established, agree-upon meanings?
May 9, 2008 6:08 PM | Reply | Permalink
LOL, for such a great source of information, analysis, and community that TPM is, the site design truly is a nightmare.
If you have a graphic you want to post, you'll need to upload it first to an image host like imageshack. Once up, you will be provided a link with the proper html tags to post here. (ATM you can't imbed images here in your post -- only link to the external site.)
Here's the link to imageshack:
http://www.imageshack.us/
If you use it often and want to manage your images as a group afterwards, I recommend registering. Otherwise, for the occasional image, registering is unnecessary.
Good luck and welcome to TPM!

It just occurred to me, since you can't imbed graphics here, you don't necessarily need any html tags -- you can just post the pure "http://..." link and the posting tool will convert it into a proper link for you.
