1917 Income Taxes
The original purpose of income taxes (namely to pay for WW1) was intended only to affect the wealthy. The families earning only the median amount didn't have to pay anything. Since payroll taxes are greater for most of the poorer US taxpayers than income taxes, why not go back to the old days. Then, we could afford to put a $3 or $4 per gallon excise tax on gasoline and diesel, giving the trucking industry tax write-offs to compensate.

Speaking of 1917 income taxes, when is John McCain going to release his tax returns from 1917?? In fact, when will he release his tax returns from the whole 1900-1935 time frame? Is he trying to hide something??

Considering that income taxes didn't start until 1917, I'm not sure how he could be expect to release his 1900-1916 tax returns…

Yes, but he still hasn't told us how many pigs, chickens and sheep that he owed to the lord of the manor as feudal tribute.
