Wright's speech
I have been watching Jeremiah Wright's speech to the NAACP and he is wonderful speaker.
I showed it to my German wife and she said, "Why are people attacking him, everything he says is true?
I suggest people read the transcript of the speech, it is like Obama before the caffeine was removed.
I think that Reverend Wright is much more interesting than Barack Obama.
It seems to me that either you are with Reverend Wright or you're not, but what Wright says is true enough and important enough to stand up for, but if you put winning above that and if you could, ethically, then you distance yourself in time. As it is Obama stands as either a closet pink or a wimp.

Obama mentioned that he was upset with Wright's comments during the Q&A at the Press Club, not at the comments made at the NAACP.

I found the speech to be very intersting but the Q&A was weird. It was like watching my 10 year old with his buddies pretending to be super hero's. After watching the full sermons on You Tube and the Moyer conversation, I felt the American people were unfairly evaluating the man. But the Q&A made him seem weird, arrogant and immature. His answers made no since (except the one about Cheney!). I too took offense to his answer about the marvelous speech BO made in Philly. Many of the man's point are true. We are different, one not better than the other. Many of his points off the mark too. I have no idea where my preacher (Methodist) stands on many issues and I don't consider him an influence on my decisions.........but I know my church does many outreach events I feel strongly about. So do you join a church or a minister? I joined a church.

If Wright had stopped with his appearances on Bill Moyers and at the NAACP, it would have been fair enough.
Even the speech portion of the National Press Club event was manageable.
Really if one watches those three addresses, Wright is making a case for racial reconciliation: which is noble. America certainly can use a thoughtful discussion on managing "difference".
However, Wright's ego began to swell up during the question and answer period at the Press Club. However, when one considers that the Press Club event was ORGANIZED by an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter, the chips fall into place a little faster. But it was Wright's hubris during the Q and A which mainly caused the ruckus.

I agree that a lot of what Wright says is true.
BUT - I clearly heard him disparage Obama and question Obama's integrity - he called him a panderer in so many words and on more than one occasion.
Regardless of political/philosophical differences thats a really low blow and not reflective of mutual respect.
I thought Wright was a colorful, exuberant speaker before this weekend - now, I seriously believe he's envious that Obama has risen so far so fast.
Even if voters don't end up blaming Obama for Wrights provocative speaking style - it's clear Wright is really angry that Obama didn't give him a stamp of approval in Philly.

Did you just seriously use the phrase "closet pink"? Back to the 50s with you!

Obama is not a wimp. He has been busting his ass for the last 15 months in order to change America. So why should he flush that down the toilet because of Wright's hurt ego?
