Who IS Mayhill Fowler?

Who IS Mayhill Fowler?

By now, most of us know the name of the person who surreptitiously
weaseled her way into a private Obama fund raiser hosted by Alex
Mehran, a wealthy real estate developer and boating enthusiast, and his
companion Carolyn Davis in California, armed with some kind of a
recorder, and walked out with a sound bite that's created a veritable
shit storm in the political world.

But who IS this woman, how did she pull this off, and what could have
motivated her to do what she did? These are the questions that many of
us have been asking as we watched the media, Clinton and McCain
campaigns attempt to distort Obama's remarks into a bombshell.

Meet Mayhill Fowler, a 61 year old "Wesley Girl" who landed in Oakland California, and married well.

As the wife of attorney James C. Fowler (a UCSB undergrad; UC Berkley
J.D. circa 1968), a Mc Cain supporter and boat lover who owns a 43 foot
yacht via some kind of revokable trust he established, and who is a
partner with the prestigious firm Bingham & McClutchen, which
list's Mehran's firm as a client on it's website, specializes in real
estate law, does work in the energy sector, and who's clients also
ocassionaly include people who buy military bases that have been
closed, Mayhill Fowler inhabits that rarified air of the truly rich and
truly elite. Evidently the irony was lost on this Wesley Girl, who
married so well, when she wrote her article disparaging Barack Obama as
an "elitist".

An Obama campaign insider told Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross at the San Fransico Chronicle's SF Gate blog Undercover blogger taped Obama's blunt remarks
that "Mayhill Fowler had tried to get into one of two Obama fundraising
events in the Bay Area a couple of months back where former New Jersey
Sen. Bill Bradley stood in as a proxy. She was turned away, even though
she had offered to pay, says our source."

So having tried to get into a private fundraiser before and having
failed, it doesn't seem like much of a coincidence that among her
husband's clients is Alex Mehran, the host of the now infamous
funraiser.

Mayhill, the epitomy of an elitist desperate housewife, fancies herself
as a "freelance writer", and started blogging at the completely ignored
site she created called "Junehill, Owl, and A Green Dog, Too" Junehill, Owl and a Green Dog, Too: March 2007
in March of 2007 - a blog which begins with a post claiming that she
was a "Green Dog Democrat" and ends in July of the same year with the
rather ominous prediction, "When the day comes that I am no longer
enamoured of Mr. O, I will put this list out to pasture." - before
picking up her blog shop and moving in as an unpaid "Citizen
Journalist" on the Huffington Post's "Off The Bus" site .

When Mrs Fowler isn't sneaking into private fundraisers with recording
devices, and writing provocatively negative blogs about candidates she
supposedly supports, she busies herself with a little operation called
"Odysseus Cruising", a company owned by five private investors in the
U.S. and E.U. The owners of Odysseus Cruising share a 75 foot yacht
which they rent out to wealthy travelers who want to cruise the Greek
Isles and Turkish Coast.

Mrs. Fowler owns the domain name Odysseus Cruising
and lists them as her employer. So it's rather odd that Mayhill Fowler
appears in the website's "guest book" where she raves about her cruise
experiences and promises to "be back next year!". Her daughter,
Caroline, also lists her praise in the guest book comments. Evidently,
pretending to be someone you're not runs in the family.

With regards to what motivates a person to do what she did, that is a
question only she can answer. but then, desperate housewives are known
to do desperate things to get the attention they crave. ...even elite
desperate housewives.

Isn't curious how the scum love Clinton?

Isn't curious how the scum love Clinton?

You're confused. The person who posted this blog is an Obama supporter.

I think you're the one who is confused here.

CORRECTION: Mayhill Fowler attended Vassar, not Wesley! My bad! (god, i wish there was a way to edit these things!!!!!!)

Wesley = Wellesley?

Daily Kos has some diary postings about this woman.

She seems sort of fruity. Her rep in some circles was crazy and untrustworthy, which she proved to be.

I agree, her pieces were sneeringly anti-Obama and her donations were just so she could pretend to be a donor. She's a Linda Tripp.

I wonder though is she a loose canon who tricked HuffPo or does she have connections to anybody in the Clinton campaign? I wish we knew.

More info can be found on Google:

Some fun facts:
*Donated to Fred Thompson
*Sister went to school with Hillary

So is she crazy or GOP or HRC?

She's a clintonite. Supposedly her hubby gave shill 25k.
postmenopausal nutjob like Shillary

You're the ageist, misogynistic scum.

So is she crazy or GOP or HRC?

**Is there a difference? McCain and HRC were using the same talking points. Same words.

And this post claims she is pro-Hillary and the person met her:

http://zennie2005.blogspot.com/2008/04/mayhill-flower-ememy-of-obama-for.html

So what? Obama said what he said. It was a gaffe. Candidates should know better than to assume "off the record" comments can't possibly leak out. In the end, it won't make much difference.

avatar

"In the end, it won't make much difference."

I agree, but it would be interesting if a link to Hillary's camp was made. Was this a rogue or a hired dirty trickster?

so what? first of all, it was a private fundraiser that she sneaked into, and those comments were in answer to a question from a volunteer who was going to PA and was asking what they should expect in this pro-hillary state... NONE OF THAT WENT IN HER ARTICLE, AND THAT INFORMATION WOULD HAVE GIVEN HIS STATEMENTS CONTEXT AND MADE THEN MUCH LESS PROVOCATIVE.

not to even MENTION the fact that this woman is herself an elitist, who's dissing obama for being precisely what SHE IS! it's ludicrous! this bored rich bitch wanted to make a name for herself, pure and simple. and she went to great unethical lengths to do so. not that ethics seem to trouble her much as evidenced in her pretending to be a satisfied customer of her own enterprise.

IIf much of this were true it would be useful. Since a great deal of it is incorrect, it would be good if you all would check your sources better.

Look at HuffPost today.

You mean this?

Is this the article on Huffpo you're talking about?

Hillary Clinton On Southern Working Class Whites In 1995: "Screw 'Em"

Anyone else thinks that titling a post "Who is Mayhill Fowler?" when you're going to be signed as "itsmeeeeee" is funny?

Yes, that is funny.

Mayhill Fowler: An insurgent threat to the 2008 election.

http://www.politicalgroove.com/election-center-2008/6109-who-mayhill-fowler.html

The fact is, I'm glad Fowler did this, and I fully support Obama. What we need, especially after eight years of Bush, is more transparency. I want to know what's being said behind closed doors. If Obama's words are taken out of context, he can respond by providing the context--which he did. He's good at that.

As Justice Brandeis once wrote, "If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the process of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence."

The fact is, I'm glad Fowler did this, and I fully support Obama. What we need, especially after eight years of Bush, is more transparency. I want to know what's being said behind closed doors.

Well put, and wholly agreed with.

So hubby is involved in military bases and energy (oil?) and supports McCain. Also being superrich, obviously Bushies no doubt.

So, is anyone in the MSM going to report that this undercover operations has links back to the Clintons? I won't hold my breath.

Wow - what a resume.

Do I believe her story now? Hell no.

There's more context to be found in a post by David Coleman, a legitimate Obama supporter who also attended the SF fundraiser:

"In context and in person, Senator Obama's remarks about Pennsylvania voters left an impression diametrically opposed to that being trumpeted by his competitor's campaigns.

At the end of Obama's remarks standing between two rooms of guests -- the fourth appearance in California after traveling earlier in the day from Montana -- a questioner asked, "some of us are going to Pennsylvania to campaign for you. What should we be telling the voters we encounter?"

Obama's response to the questioner was that there are many, many different sections in Pennsylvania comprised of a range of racial, geographic, class, and economic groupings from Appalachia to Philadelphia. So there was not one thing to say to such diverse constituencies in Pennsylvania. But having said that, Obama went on say that his campaign staff in Pennsylvania could provide the questioner (an imminent Pennsylvania volunteer) with all the talking points he needed. But Obama cautioned that such talking points were really not what should be stressed with Pennsylvania voters.

Instead he urged the volunteer to tell Pennsylvania voters he encountered that Obama's campaign is about something more than programs and talking points. It was at this point that Obama began to talk about addressing the bitter feelings that many in some rural communities in Pennsylvania have about being brushed aside in the wake of the global economy. Senator Obama appeared to theorize, perhaps improvidently given the coverage this week, that some of the people in those communities take refuge in political concerns about guns, religion and immigration. But what has not so far been reported is that those statements preceded and were joined with additional observations that black youth in urban areas are told they are no longer "relevant" in the global economy and, feeling marginalized, they engage in destructive behavior. Unlike the week's commentators who have seized upon the remarks about "bitter feelings" in some depressed communities in Pennsylvania, I gleaned a different meaning from the entire answer.

And Obama said "I got in trouble for saying something everyone knows is true", as he tried to spin his uh and,and uh gaffe in San Fran.

Kinda like what happened to Gerri Ferraro, don't you think? , now be honest.

Yeah, it's exactly the same as what happened to Ferraro. Both of them got in trouble for saying something that everybody knows is true. Except for the fact that what Ferraro said is false. Now be honest.

And the fact that she unapologetically asserted that it was true over and over. And over.

Funny how many elitists have followed the lead of this elitist to tell the small town folk that they should be offended.

She also donated to Fred Thompson before he dropped out of the Republican race.

who cares who mayhill fowler is. if it wasn't her recording his remark, it would've been junebug critter or someone else eventually doing it. obama said what he said and it got out. it's up to obama now to handle it, and make supporters of the small town PA'ers who might have been offended. unless you can prove she entrapped him into saying those things, its useless to debate her motives. attacking her isn't turning a negative into a positive, it's just adding more negative.

avatar

"who cares who mayhill fowler is."

If she's a Hillary plant and it could be proven, that would be something!

avatar

One more thing:

This is important because the media needs to be held accountable.

Fowlers columns were sneeringly anti-Obama. That kind of onesided subjective smearing by the rightwing media machien and their dirty tricksters (Mayhill 'Fouler')can't be allowed to stand unchallenged.

avatar

And yet you're more than willing to smear Clinton with this...

Clinton smeared herself with this.

When people are angry, acknowledge it.

avatar

Iove the name Mayhill Fowler. Mayhill better not go hunting with Hillary. She loves to shoot Fowl.

Here is what Senator Obama was actually saying:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHodpyhXFSg&feature=user

The saddest part of this is that from 2004 to 2008, Barack Obama didn't need to change the message at all, because the circumstances of the people didn't change at all (except to be more dire).

"The real story:"

Yeah, right.
