When people walk out of a Clinton rally, here's what they think.

avatar

1) Hillary and Barack are tied in this race so far.

2) Obama is trying to disenfranchise millions of voters in FL and MI, and doesn't want the voice of the people to be heard.

3) Hillary opposed the war before Obama did. Then he flip-flopped.
4)Hillary has the only universal health care plan.
5) Hillary has been against NAFTA from the start.

6)Hillary is the only one who bothered to put together an economic stimulus proposal that offers mortgage relief for people struggling to pay their bills.
7) Hillary is the only one ready to be C.I.C. because she and Bill were dealing with national security issues for 8 years.
8) Hillary has won all the big states. Obama hasn't won any big states, and if a democrat can't win those, the Republicans will win.
9) Hillary's the only one who can beat McCain in the general election.

H'mmm?.. I hope these folks have a designated driver after a steady stream of *Clinton Iced Teaz*.

I wonder who Obama is plundering his speeches from these days.

avatar

better question, how many more whoppers (i.e. lies) has Billary told the last week

avatar

Maybe Hillary can get a job at Fox News after this is over.

Repeating talking points of your candidate (even on a site called Talking Points Memo) doesn't help your cause. It makes Hillary's positions seem canned.

For the record, I'm fairly certain that tpmgary/Gary Cohen is not a Clinton supporter. The point of this post (I surmise) is to demonstrate the kind of silly talking points that are being distributed at such rallies. And, of course, it's completely appropriate for a site called Talking Points Memo. :)

avatar

Donnerpass, I posted this one. I'm an Obama supporter. I think the things Hillary says at these rallies are ridiculously unfounded.

My point is that those in attendance take them as fact.

She's spinning people, one gymnasium at a time.

avatar

Unless you're tha amazing Karnak you have no idea as to what people are thinking .

But Bev, these are some of Clinton's talking points, yes? Do you agree with that? You seem to be intelligent and fact based...some of these things can be argued, yes, but others are ridiculous in their assertions, right?

I agree he should have just made the title just about what the campaign's major arguments are; there is no way to know if her supporters buy the arguments. But the larger argument IMO is these points aren't true and in pushing them it's clouding what the differences between the candidates truly are.

avatar

It doesn't matter in the least what her talking points are, no journalist, no one aspiring to be a journalist and just plain no one knows what anyone else is thinking. Some of her points are valid, some are not just as Obama makes valid points and points that are not.

But Bev really, what do you see in her candidacy?

The sniper fire didn't find you wavering? Just a bit?

Such precision and detail in her delivery of "what happened"...

avatar

To Howard Wolfson's credit, or discredit, he's been successful at creating a disinformation campaign that the MSM perpetuates, often without scrutiny.

But the more serious danger isn't at the MSM level.

It's the pervasiveness of the disinformation at the local level;
in person, community phone banks, emails, mailers and local rallies.

avatar

Obama needs the work of a 527 in PA to get the truth out about Hillary's lies. There is by now a long list to publicize.

And they could start with the 10 listed above.

Obama's own lies are more than he has time to deal with.

You seem to have plenty. Why don't you list 'em?

avatar

I hate to say it, but is it possible he would have "closed the deal" by now if he had been more effective at defining his opponent? I admire the above-the-fray campaign he has run -- of course I do. But he still has an obligation to make sure the lies are refuted, and her distortions are highlighted, doesn't he?

Just wondering.

avatar

Obama never lies, he just "mis-remembers", HRC should try that tactic Wright?

I don't think this week is a good one for a Clinton supprter to accuse Sen. Obama of lying, do you, really?

(and I get the last part, too, where you substituted 'Wright' for 'right', but, to be effective you really needed a comma before 'Wright'...and couldn't you have worked in Rezko as well? That always helps your case here.)

"Obama never lies, he just "mis-remembers", HRC should try that tactic Wright?"

You are so 'Wright' that I just made another donation to Barack's campaign.

Woo Hoo!!

avatar

This reminds me of the polls in fall of 2004 that listed the things that a high percentage of Bush supporters "knew" that weren't so -- Saddam being involved in 9/11, etc, etc.

tpmgary: Have you attended a Hillary rally or have watched on in its entirety. Most of the comments that I see in local media and on local forums after one of her appearances is that they're glad she's attacking Bush (and the Republicans), she was very specific about her plans and they were surprised that she hardly mentioned Obama.

Yes, in Q&As, she sometimes makes one of the points that you mention and many of them are somewhat true depending on your perspective, but in the actual rallies, she's clearly more focused on getting a Democrat into the White House.

avatar

I've watched many of her rallies in their entirety, either on CSPAN or on the net. All of the points I listed in my original post are ones she's made herself. Not necessarily in the same rally. I haven't done an exit poll at any of the rallies but I'd be willing to bet if you inquired about any of the above points, for example, the Michigan and Florida "disenfranchisement", a majority of those supporters who are only now paying attention to the election take what she says at face value.

Unfortunately, only people following this closely know that's probably not a good idea.

avatar

As if we haven't had enough disinformation for almost 8 years we can plan on four more years of it if Hillary grabs this nomination.

Convention Address:

Whew! I barely made it to the podium. The Obama sniper fire almost took out my personal ex-marine squad I recruited back in college when I first attempted to enlist, but like me they are battle-tested. I have lead them in over 50 combat missions. No place was too dangerous for Bill to send us when I was First Lady. When we were not on assignment I created the S-CHIPS program and brought peace to Northern Ireland. When I promise you I will bring the troops home and deliver universal health care you can take my word for it! Just ask my boys!

avatar

Hillary, Inc., has now gone past Burger King as the true Home of the Whopper.

avatar

That just proves the old adage that you can lie to all the fools all of the time.

where's idiotic?

avatar

"Yes, in Q&As, she sometimes makes one of the points that you mention and many of them are somewhat true depending on your perspective, but in the actual rallies, she's clearly more focused on getting a Democrat into the White House."

Are you kidding? Sometimes? She has made those claims continuously. They are the staple of her stump speech. And the ONLY Democratic Hillary Clinton is interested in getting elected to the White House is HERSELF!

Time for a reality check!

I've watched the live feed of a lot of appearances from both candidates via national and local sources and though I haven't seen them all, the overwhelming majority of Hillary's speeches are focused entirely on the Dems and just like Obama, she really only mentions her opponent (often indirectly), once or maybe twice. Local media reports much of the same thing and they often quote from various audience members about being surprised by the amount of substance and the lack of a contentious, fiery primary speech.

I meant that she focuses on beating the Republicans and I promise that wasn't a freudian slip.

But. sure she mentions the days when a Democrat was last in the White House and she talks about her plans, but a lot of her references to the future are even built around a "we", which it could be argued is "royal" and it's in reference to Democrats in general.

PS) Since it's the easiest to find because it's linked from something that I was referencing earlier, but here's a link to her Grand Forks (ND) appearance. The echo gets a lot better after a few minutes and thing is 53 minutes, but if you're interested...

If Hillary isn't continuing to say that she and McCain are more qualified than Obama; if she isn't still spouting the lame crap that she and McCain have a life-time of experience as opposed to Obama giving one speech 6 years ago -- well, if she isn't doing that any more ---

Could it be because she has done all the damage she intended to do? Could it be because it wasn't winning her any converts? Could it be because she could qualify to be a Judas herself and she knows it?

So, if for the last week she has run against her opponents on issues (what a concept!) does that negate the crap she has done before?

Clinton has every right to compare herself and her programs to Obama. She is a bitter and poor loser for bringing up fake (and bogus) qualifications that she has, and she is no friend of the Democratic party for putting Obama down in relation to the republian candidate.

I hope she and Bill are happy together (they desperately wanted to both be ex-presidents), but it is not going to happen. Will they manage to be happy anyway, as a former Governor, former President, and former Senator? (Oh, did I leave out multi-millionaires?) Oh, well, I guess some people are never satisfied.

It isn't a new phenomenon. She's basically been running a similar campaign since Super Tuesday. Perhaps what her supporters are saying is something different and maybe those on television have talking points, but the stump speech hasn't really evolved all that much (except she targets McCain more) and I might say much of the same for Obama. Though, you might argue that he started mixing-in a bit more substance to his rally speeches, sometime around Super Tuesday, but he already had a lot in his "town hall" and all he really did was move it over.

Also, I guess a lot of the perception might also be due to the national media and their agenda. I had the Grand Forks thing open because earlier I commented to someone citing an ABC News report that pulled a couple of quotes from it, so that the reporter could play to the "horse race" audience and maybe get linked from this and other forums.

PS) If you watch her appearances, she's not really running against Obama and there's really no contrasting beyond a couple of indirects, but she's clearly campaigning for a Democratic agenda against the Republicans and the last eight years.

avatar

And I just made one to HRC. Another one.

Mark Penn (still on the payroll, BTW) thanks you for your contribution.

Actually, now that I think of it, since Penn makes millions off of Clinton and people like you, he thanks you for your paultry contribution. It probably will buy him 60 seconds of his brilliant thoughts and advice.

They think they just saw the next President of the United States or they would not go.

avatar

Obama Supporters apparently can't see it. They can't see why millions of people are so attracted to Hillary.

I'll give you a clue, from a guy who respects Obama even though I'm 100% for Hillary.

What draws people to Obama, I think, is really his personal narrative, what his presidency, if it should ever happen, would represent -- in and of itself, independently of his concrete plans and proposals. He makes white liberals feel good about themselves. He makes African Americans feel empowered. He promises something new, something different. And just by being who he is, he's almost automatically guaranteed to deliver that.

Hillary's appeal is different. If you listen to her talk even if you don't get all the details (I suspect most of her supporters don't. but I think the same is true for most voters who support any politician) you come away that here's a person who has spent her life thinking through public policy and fighting for the things she believes in. You get the sense that she knows her own mind, knows what she believes in and know who she stands for and who against. And you get the sense that if she's on your side of the issue, she will spend every waking breath trying to get things done. You get the sense that this isn't about the next line on her resume. It's about achieving concrete and specific things to help bring about real changes in real people's real lives. You get the sense that it isn't about symbols and poses who she is and what electing her will "say" about America or about us, but about real things that matter to real people.

Bottom line, I think the people who favor Hillary are probably see their vote as much less "symbolic" and "expressive" than people who vote for Obama.

2008 is about Truth vs. Truthiness.

As an Obama supporter, it's none of that feel good "symbolic" and "expressive" stuff you mention Thinkingman. No liberal guilt here. (I actually like the Springsteen version of liberalism based on a certain amount of anger and justice more than guilt and "goo-goo" good-government bull...)

Anyway, it's Barack's stubborn adherence to truth and principles that is attractive. Sure he'll screw up on things, but 95% of the time I feel like he's trying to be honest. (Honest to a fault actually. Flag pin and Rev. Wright are two examples where I was scared for him, and he stuck it out with his truth. That's guts.)

All in all, I don't get that "lied to" feeling from the guy.

avatar

Hello Thinkingman,
I am surprised at you for choosing a brainy username yet not applying your mind for such a important event as electing the right person for the president of our USA. We should all weigh the facts of Clinton's history vs that of Obama. If you went out to buy yourself a brand new car I am quite sure your research would be incredible. The fact of the matter(I think)is where Obama lacks in inexperience Clinton makes up for in fraud. Hillary and Bill have been involved in fraud since they have been in the business of government. From Whitewater to Hsu(and a lot in between) they have had their dirty little hands muddy. I would like you to go to utube and watch the Hillary Clinton vs Peter Paul segment(there are two parts) and let me know if this is a person we need in the White House. We have had 8 years of someone who says I am the President of the United States and I do what I want. By the way NAFTA was President Clinton's baby and we are now seeing the devastation of his work. When Hillary Clinton ran for senate she promised 250,000 jobs to New York and they lost 30,000 but she says NAFTA worked in New York but has failed in Ohio. She told Obama he needed to be original yet the 3:00am line comes from Regan. The list can go on and on but I suggest you google information like I did before you try to make a decision on who would make the best president. If the only thing someone can get on Obama is what somebody else said I would say that was pretty darn good. Wouldn't you?

I think he makes good points actually. He's talking about perspective, not the facts on the ground. People believe what they believe for different reasons. I support Obama for different reasons than he posted, but there are some legitimate points about why he thinks people still support Clinton. We'd be doing ourselves a disservice to dismiss it IMO.

You know the Peter Paul thing is a crock, right?

They were exonerated on Whitewater completely, another crock.

Honestly, if you were investigated as thoroughly as the Clintons have been, I believe you and 80% of America would be behind bars. $40 million spent, years of investigation by scores of investigators poring over every financial transaction and they emerged unscathed, the only chargeable offense was the lie about sex.

so get over it. You would have to search high and wide to find cleaner people than the Clintons financially.

It makes me sick that the rightwing witchhunt, though it failed to unseat Clinton, still worked to muddy them.

IF you cannot understand that when someone spends $40 million to go after Clinton and fails, that failure says a lot.

avatar

Strange how differently people can interpret the same post. It didn't occur to me that this was anti-Obama - rather it was a sage warning of what Obama is confronting.
HRC's campaign stumping has improved out of sight since Iowa.
If she didn't spoil it with stupid lies such as the Bosnia farce and now this truly pathetic/nauseating attempt over being the first to oppose Iraq, one could make a very good argument that certainly in blue collar dominated areas, she's by far the better campaigner.
All Obama supporters should be hugely wary of the way in which she adopts working class speech patterns in this districts. I can't bear to watch/listen to her it's so damned unnerving. Her performance in Memphis merited an Oscar!
If you add the original post's points to the Limbaugh Operation Chaos factor - it's hard to see how Obama's going to stay ahead in the popular vote by the end of the primaries. I imagine his campaign is very nervous now: I sure am.

"They think they just saw the next President of the United States or they would not go."

They think that they haven't milked the Rev. Wright thing completely dry and that they should try desperately to exploit it some more since they can't think of any way to get discerning people to like their candidate. They're unable to grasp that their candidate's non-stop train of BS utterances has overshadowed the weeks-old story about Obama's retired pastor.

Gee, I wonder what kind of pictures the Republicans might post ad nauseum to sour voters on the notion of Clintons living in the White House again.

avatar

Boonagain,

I didn't say that I was a Hillary supporter, and I didn't accuse anyone of lying. I said Obama "mis-remembers". As I recall, "mis-remember" is to tell a story several times with a slightly different twist each time. Tell the story the same way twice and you have "mis-spoke", which is called a lie in these posts.

As for Resco, Obama will fall into that by himself
,,,,, for good measure, just to be sure.

Woo Hoo , I think maybe, Abe Lincoln said "a fool and his money are soon parted".

avatar

"We've never been 'stay the course'" George Bush

"I opposed the war before Obama did" Hillary Clinton

People still go to Clinton rallies?

10) "It was much better than 'Cats.' I would see it again and again and again."

avatar

Thinking Man, I enjoyed your thoughtful post. Your perspective is interesting to me because I've actually had the opposite impression, at least with one segment of Hillary's supporter, baby-boomer women (my demographic). What I was hearing from them was that though they felt both candidates would be good presidents, they felt they "had to" vote for Hillary because of the symbolism of that vote for women.

avatar

And that's different from 90% of Blacks voting for Obama...how?

avatar

OK, let's go over the 10. I've seen her rallies on video and have been in the front row center of one of them.

1) Hillary and Barack are tied in this race so far.

SHE SAYS IT'S EXTREMELY CLOSE, NOT TIED, AND SHE'S RIGHT WHEN ONE CONSIDERS ALL THE FACTORS. IT'S NOT JUST THE MATH WHEN IT'S THIS CLOSE.

2) Obama is trying to disenfranchise millions of voters in FL and MI, and doesn't want the voice of the people to be heard.

NO, SHE SAYS OBAMA DOESN'T WANT THEIR VOICES TO BE HEARD BECAUSE IT WOULD WORK AGAINST HIM. THIS IS TRUE.

3) Hillary opposed the war before Obama did. Then he flip-flopped.

SORRY, I NEVER HEARD HER SAY THIS. WHAT SHE DOES SAY IS THAT SHE AND A VAST MAJORITY OF SENATORS VOTED, NOT FOR THE WAR, BUT TO GIVE BUSH AUTHORIZATION TO CONTINUE TO CHECK FOR WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, AND IF FOUND, THE AUTHORIZATION TO DECLARE WAR IF NECESSARY. THIS IS A COMMON THING FOR OUR GOVERNMENT TO DO WHEN WE ARE THREATENED OR ATTACKED. THE FACT THAT BUSH ABUSED THE POWER BY LYING ABOUT THE WMD'S IS WHAT SHE IS ANGRY ABOUT, AND SINCE THEN, HAS VOTED EVERY TIME TO RESTRICT AND REDUCE HIS POWER.

4)Hillary has the only universal health care plan.

YES, AND THIS IS FACT. SHE DOES SAY THAT SHE IS THE ONLY CURRENT CANDIDATE THAT HAS IT, AND GIVES CREDIT TO EDWARDS FOR ALSO HAVING ONE.

5) Hillary has been against NAFTA from the start.

TRUE, AND PEOPLE WHO WERE INVOLVED IN IT CONFIRM THIS. SHE ADVISED BILL AGAINST IT, AND NEVER LIKED IT. BUT ONCE IT WAS LAW, SHE NEEDED TO SUPPORT IT SO THAT IT HAD A CHANCE TO WORK.

6)Hillary is the only one who bothered to put together an economic stimulus proposal that offers mortgage relief for people struggling to pay their bills.

NO, SHE SAYS SHE HAS THE BEST ECONOMIC PLAN, AND MOST ECONOMISTS AGREE WITH HER, ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH.

7) Hillary is the only one ready to be C.I.C. because she and Bill were dealing with national security issues for 8 years.

TRUE. AND YES, SHE'S RIGHT.

8) Hillary has won all the big states. Obama hasn't won any big states, and if a democrat can't win those, the Republicans will win.

NOT EXACTLY WHAT SHE SAYS. SHE SAYS SHE HAS WON MOST OF THE BIG STATES, AND THE ONES DEMOCRATS NEED TO WIN IF THEY ARE TO WIN IN NOVEMBER. THIS, TOO, IS TRUE, AND THE SUPERS KNOW THIS. SO DON'T BE TOO SHOCKED IF THEY DON'T PICK YOUR GUY.

9) Hillary's the only one who can beat McCain in the general election.

NO, SHE SAYS SHE IS THE BEST CANDIDATE TO BEAT MCCAIN.

AND I BELIEVE SHE'S RIGHT. SHE HAS BEEN POLITCALLY AUTOPSIED FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS, AND THERE ARE NO SURPRISES OR ANY MAJOR NEW MEAT FOR THE REPUBLICANS TO USE AGAINST HER. OBAMA, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS FULL OF SURPRISES. REZKO, WRIGHT, LOSING HIS COOL OVER A PHOTOGRAPH; WHAT'S NEXT? THE SUPERS HAVE TO TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION ALSO.

avatar

Freemont, am so tried of people saying that Clinton won all the big states she did not win Florida because their was no campaign and turns out Obama won Texas. As for Michigan, had Hillary taken her name off the ballot maybe there could have been another election. She loves to do underhanded stuff and she got what she wanted in Michigan.
You talk about Obama and his problems what about Hillary, she should be considered as the scandal queen. If half the senate would have been through what she has been through they probably would be in jail or at least banded from ever holding a political office and this is who you want for the President of our United States.
I think Bill Richardson wanted to endorse Obama but he kept weighing his loyalty to the Clinton's or what was right for the country. In the end he choice was for the person he felt would serve the country best. When we talk about a uniter(and we do need one)do you feel that is Hillary?
Let's us not talk about her health care plan. You should do your own research on her health care plan. Hillary is the best joke in Washington when it comes to Health Care Reform. Health care was her baby so explain to me why there is no health care reform. Ask the different agencies in New York why is so hard to get a simple vaccination for their kids then ask Hillary.
Please do your homework before make the most important decision of this time.

avatar

Thanks Fremont for taking the time to go through my post point by point. I didn't say that these were all exact quotes from Sen. Clinton. The purpose here was to indicate what people think after a rally, the overall impression that they're left with. So just a few things:

Regarding the economy, here is a direct quote from Hillary:
"Senator Obama is timid and unenthusiastic about doing anything about the economy".

Regarding the war, here's a quote from her Eugene, Oregon rally: "I started criticizing the war in Iraq before (Obama)"

Otherwise, for the most part, we agree on the overall impression Hillary leaves on her rally attendees. The difference is I think she's being misleading at the very least, and you don't.

Either way, good to hear your opinion.

I'll just point out some glaring ones.

2. Yes, she did use the term "disenfranchise."

3. You never heard her say something? Well, check this out:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/04/in-oregon-clint.html

4. Hillary's health plan may be universal, but it benefits insurance companies more than people. It doesn't matter anyway, because she won't be able to get Congress to do anything she wants because she is such a divisive person. Look at what she is doing to our own party!

5. On NAFTA: Who cares what she thought? She is claiming executive experience for her husband's presidency. She can't cherry-pick the programs when it isn't working for her.

7. CiC on day one because of Bill? That is so stupid, anyone not ashamed to bring it up should go and hide.

9. Big states/ little states/ hogwash! The big states Hillary won would go for Obama in the general. Obama has brought some Red states into the fray (like my own - Virginia) that very well may go Dem in the General IF Obama is the candidate.

10. Hillary beat McCain? That's what Karl and Rush want you to believe. It is wrong.

(Sorry if some of my #'s don't match, but you get my drift. My boss keeps walking by!)

And speaking of the supers: the ability to run a campaign well, and adjust to changes, and also to raise money is a huge factor. Hillary's campaign has gone on one assumption --> she was a shoo-in. They overspent on luxuries in the beginning, and ignored small states, and they didn't adjust when the truth came and hit them. Now they can't raise more $$ and they are looking more and more ridiculous every day.

avatar

Hillary has been an easy target for two reasons:
She has substance.
She makes the connection between what needs to be done and what is possible.
Obama made a great speech in 2006 -
He has been chosen by the corporate media to be the Democratic nominee.
To quote Rambo: "are they gonna let us win this time?"

avatar

Clearly her "substance" is a figment of her imagination...do we really want a delusional alcoholic and pathological liar "answering the phone at 3 a.m."?

Obama has made a lot of good speeches, AND he hasn't made up sniper fire or misstaken hospital stories in a single one of them. He's got a strong legislative record in IL and the Senate. He's got really well-thought-out plans, and the ability to lead. To dismiss him as "a great speech" is a) to underestimate the power of words to create action, and b) to lie to oneself.

Why would "substance" make Hillary an easy target? What substance would make Democrats distrust Hillary? Why would Democrats target a candidate who would fight for Democratic ideals? Can you answer that? You sound like the republicans who say Democrats want us to lose in Iraq. Why would Democrats want us to lose in Iraq? Same type of question. Loaded. See yourself?

Hillary. What/who is she? She is a victim, who feels entitled because of her philandering husband, with whom she is competing. Guess what? That is not our problem!

She is not a person of "substance," and the pathetic way she has "governed" her campaign has proved that. She is incompetent and she would never have gotten this far if her name were Hillary Smith.

Substance? What has she actually accomplished? She doesn't even know truth vs hyperpole/lying.

We don't need another person who can justify anything on the basis that she "deserves to win." (God told Dubya that he should be president, remember? So what's the difference?)

I was a fan of Bill and defended him throughout all of his travails. Hillary and Bill have both lost my respect because of their behavior, which is embarassing to me and to our party. They need to go home and count their money and their many priviledges, and offices, AND then they need to support our next president:

Barack Obama. If they can't do that, screw them.

avatar

And this is why many Clinton supporters are so rabidly anti-Obama, and so loyal to her, because she fills them full of lies like these and they believe it...so they think Obama is the goddamn boogeyman, a horribly mean person and a liar, who they don't want to support in the general. It is insanity. What has always bothered me about Clinton supporters, many of them at least, is that they only seem to get their information from Hillary's campaign, so they have become completely out of touch with reality. They have no idea how nasty their own candidate has been, and they have a completely distorted view of Obama. I don't understand it. I've always supported Obama, but I never check his website for facts, I don't get my information from his emails, I research everything myself, from many many sources. Yet I can't tell you how many times I've seen Hillary supporters post links from Hillary's facthub to "prove" a point.

avatar

I reckon turn-about is fair play.

Things Obama supporters KNOW before they go to an Obama rally.

1. Obama has already won so Hillary needs to get out.

2. When Hillary misspeaks, it is always an obvious lie.

3. When Obama misspeaks, it is simply a mistake.

4. To say that LBJ had anything to do with the civil rights movement is to diminish MLK and marks the speaker aa an obvious, ignorant racist. This includes HRC, Tom Brokaw, Juanita Abernathy, Andrew Young, Bill Moyers, and of course, MLK himself who attended the signing of civil rights legislation signed by Johnson as well as campaigning for him in the 1964 election.

5. Obama is the only candidate who can bridge the racial divide in this country. The only one!

6. Obama is the only one who can bridge the partisan divisions in this country. The only one.

7. Obama has superior moral and intellectual judgment to any one else in the country.

8. The Pastor Wright issue is forgotten and will have no bearing at all on the general election.

I'm sure I've forgotten a few things. Let me think--- Oh yeah.

9. Damn this Kool-Aid is deliciious.

you forgot two.

10. Electing a black man will be a historic event. Electing a woman, not so much.

11. Obama is a progressive.

avatar

I attended our Legislative District Caucus this weekend in Washington State, and I gotta say... the Hillary supporters are hitting the Kool-Aid hard. The Clinton campaign had even sent out one of their own from New York to pep their crowd up.

I read something funny... one of the people running for the Delegate position had the most asinine rationale for supporting Hillary for President. To summarize, he wrote that he wanted Hillary to be President because she is a woman and that we to get rid of the macho attitude of the presidency. Nothing about her policy positions or anything... nice!

In the end... Hillary lost another Delegate to Obama in my Congressional District.

Actually, I think what most people go away from her speaches thinking is: "Why does she do that weird pointing smiling thing where she stretches her eyes really wide all the time? It's like she's a kid recognizing people for the first time...Obama sure doesn't do that..."

As for the big state thing, I think Colbert did a great bit on this when he talked about SouthGeorgiaMissipAbama. Obama won all of those states, and if you put them together hey! They make a big state. Fabulous. The whole big state thing goes off the idea that it's not the number of votes that count, but the largeness of the geographic area of votes that counts.

And this whole idea that Obama can't win states in the general election because Clinton won them (sometimes just within 10 points)is ridiculous. Do you really think Cali is going to go red just because Hillary didn't get the nom? Obama's polls have improved there since then.

avatar

It's one thing to challenge a candidate's message and quite another to impugn the intelligence of every single individual who dares to hear that candidate speak in person.

This nastiness (from people on both sides) is really getting old.

avatar

Hey Gary that was you in back flashing everyone right?
