What You Can't Buy from Canada, Big Pharma Buys from China!
We Americans sure are suckers. Our lawmakers have made it illegal for us to purchase drugs at lower prices from Canada, which means we have to buy our drugs at the grossly inflated prices Big Pharma charges for them here in America. Ostensibly, this rule is for our safety because the FDA says it can't guarantee the safety of drugs from foreign countries like Canada. But now we hear that the very same FDA is perfectly comfortable allowing Big Pharma to buy it's drugs not from Canada--but from wildly unregulated China! And of course the drugs--in this case Heparin--are contaminated and people are dying (over 80 have died already because of contaminated Heparin from China). So American seniors living on fixed incomes aren't allowed to save a few bucks buying their drugs from a very safe market in Canada--but Big Pharma is completely free to go to China and purchase contaminated drugs at hugely discounted prices and resell them to those very same seniors at grossly inflated prices!
Let me repeat the facts here:

Your lawmakers have made it illegal for you to buy perfectly safe drugs from Canada

By doing that, they've given Big Pharma a monopoly so the drug capitalists can raise their prices to obscene levels and make huge profits off sick Americans who have no other place to turn

Meanwhile, these same drug capitalists are allowed to ship American jobs to China where drugs can be manufactured by cheap labor and where environmental regulations don't exist

The quality of these drugs is completely unmonitored and it turns out the drugs are in fact toxic and kill the poor suckers who paid all that money to buy them

Meanwhile, Big Pharma keeps pumping the campaign coffers of your lawmakers full of cash

So people are dying because the scoundrels in Washington are more concerned with stuffing their coffers and helping their rich friends in Big Pharma than watching out for the average Joes that put them in office. If you're not angry yet, you better get angry fast. Cause, man, have you been taken!

It's very likely that the contamination is due to poor quality control at the plant in the U.S. In all honesty, that's where I'd start looking.
I'm willing to bet that instead of using some sort of preparatory chromatography to confirm the purity of their product, they (Baxter, U.S.) use a cheaper method.
It's still an indictment of Bushenomics, whether the fault lies with China's raw materials or Baxter's post-production analysis. In the latter case, better and more comprehensive watchdog agencies (enterprises that Bush abhors) might have caught the problem earlier on, or have forced Baxter to use better testing methods. In the former case, more stringent import restrictions and/or inspections (another thing Bush hates) might have caught the bad materials before they ever reached the plant.
