Wait til Fox News finds this: Obama is toast.
I am an Obama supporter 100%, but after reading about Obama's lama problem, I can see how this juicy tidbit will fit into the Fox and Rove "Obama is a Muslim thug enemy of freedom, patriotism and Israel" theme and drive low-information voters out in droves to stop him.
The tidbit is a video of an Al Jazeera broadcast entitled: Gaza's Obama Campaign.
Rove will love this. For my part, I think it speaks to the positive hope that he inspires in people. Whether you like Obama or not, whether you think he's full of it or not, there's no denying the hope he inspires.
Exhibit B: ObamaWorks
Despite the increasingly horrific and nauseating criticism that Obama is getting from Rove et al. on Fox, and despite Obama's lama problem, I am going to try to have the same faith in Americans that Obama seems to have, and that Clinton does not have. I am going to hope they send him to the White House despite the Fox narrative.
But for the record, and for the third or fourth time, if Obama does not win the nomination, I will be voting for Clinton, and I am going to have faith that Americans of whatever party see that Clinton is easily a better candidate than McCain.

Chill a bit. I'm not going to recommend that Obama push this story, but it's not seriously damaging to discover that Palestinians like him. Sure, it won't help him with AIPAC, or with my uncle Earl.
But you know what? Screw my uncle Earl -- he was gonna vote for McCain anyway. Democrats need to evolve to become vertebrate lifeforms -- and one place to start is by growing a g*ddam backbone. It's not 2002 anymore, people.

Oi vay. I know the guy means well, but he really doesn't understand the "typical" American. You're right, Rove will love it.
Luckily, this is Obama we're talking about. He'll figure out how to diffuse it. I don't know how he'll do it, but I'm not Obama.

Oy vey is right. It reminds of when I was working for the Kerry Campaign (I know, I know...), and we had a volunteer fly in on his own dime to canvass for a week. He was French. and this was central Ohio. We appreciated his enthusiasm, sure, but remember all the ridiculous France-bashing going on at the time? Kerry being accused of "looking French"? Cheese-eating surrender monkeys?
Now take that anti-French sentiment, blow it up to all-out hateful ignorant Islamophobia, and imagine a family in Altoona picking up their phone the night before the election to hear a foreign-sounding voice in broken English encouraging them to vote for Obama because "he'll bring peace to the Middle East." I don't doubt the sincerity of those gentlemen, but if I got a call like that, honestly, I'd think it was RNC/HRC dirty tricks.
On another level, I kind of just have to sit back and appreciate the dark absurd humor of it all.

So it's official, Democrats are invertebrates. You don't see Republicans going through a bunch of handwringing over what Democrats will or won't say. Get some back bone. This shit only works if people buy into the idea that this is evidence of ANYTHING bearing on a candidate's ability to govern. It doesn't.

Do you really not get it? These guys (Islamic fur'ners) are calling people in the heartland directly and telling them that they Obama would be a great president. I realize that the vast majority of us at TPM can't get into the mindset of the "typical" American, but try. Just try. Here's an e-mail I got from one such person:
Now, I apologize for foisting this kind of ignorance on you (at least I had the dignity of converting it from the original all upper-case crazy font that it originally came in), but there are a lot of these crazies out there.
Of course, the rational argument is that these people wouldn't have been voting for Obama in the first place.
