Titanic rivets, and the defensiveness of corporations caught with their hand in the cookie jar
Josh's remarks that Harland and Wolff have been defensive when presented the theory that the rivets used on the RMS Titanic were inferior recreated Harland and Wolff's statement - that the RMS Olympic, sister ship to the Titanic, served for many years without a problem.
What their defense fails to acknowledge is that the RMS Olympic was brought in and substantially re-built after the Titanic disaster - the hull was double plated to the upper decks, rather than just to the bilges.
Again - THE HULL WAS RE-PLATED. How could we assume that they continued using the poorer grade rivets?
Perhaps a task for the archival researcher that came up with the information regarding the Titanic's rivets.
It could be illustrative to learn whether the RMS Britannic, third ship of the trio, which sank very swiftly after striking a German mine in the Aegean sea during WWI was also built using inferior rivets.
