The Quintessence of Beltway Evil Has been Located: Penn, Schoen

Mark Penn's partner Doeg Schoen, has an item in the Huffington Post,  in which Schoen takes issue with Wednesday's NYT editorial calling out Hillary Clinton for having taken the "Low Road to Victory" in Pennsylvania.

Schoen's piece is completely priceless, not least  for its utter failure -- the phrase "category mistake" comes to mind -- to recognize any difference between what campaign techniques are effective, and what techniques are admirable or good for party or country.  I offer the following taste of Schoen-y goodness:

She must continue to draw contrasts with Senator Obama, raise questions about the nature and extent of his associations with Reverend Wright and terrorist leader William Ayers, and raise more questions about his values in comparison with hers.

Having done 15 years of successful Democratic campaigns in Indiana, I can say with confidence that negative campaigning works effectively with Hoosier voters. Voters in the southern part of the state are very much akin to southern white voters, who have given an overwhelmingly large amount of support to Senator Clinton. They will be quite susceptible to her values-based argument about the flawed candidacy of Senator Obama.

PS: to be cross posted at Dkos.

What a complete hack, basically he is saying the people of Indiana are stupid, ignorant bigots and we are just giving them what they want.

"terrorist leader William Ayers?"

What the hell is wrong with these people?

If Ayers was ever really a terrorist, then he wasn't a very scary one or a very good one. The very idea of trying to make points this way is sickening. This should prove to anyone who ever doubted it, that her ego is totally out of control and she'll do anything at all to win, no matter how odious, false, etc...

"...raise more questions about his values in comparison with hers."

Oh yes. Let's go there.

Also, Schoen's oeuvre doesn't disclose the $millions that Hillary owes to his firm.

The HuffPost comments are uniformly scathing and cathartic.
