The Boss Weighs In
You want working-class street-cred? How about Bruce Springsteen:
Like most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest.
He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where "...nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone."
I feel like celebrating. Think I'll have a shot of Crown Royal before I go outside to pull off a couple rounds of birdshot.

Oh no, now you're bring the Boss into things. This just invites people to accidentally confuse him with the Piano Man, which will offend all sorts of people who don't really care but will be forced to pretend that it matters when Chris Matthews has them on Hardball.
I'm off to have a glass of cote du rhone and a cheesesteak on wholegrain flax bread topped with organic gruyere.
Middleclassfully yours,

How could anyone possibly confuse Springsteen with Billy Joel? Did you see Matthews on Colbert Monday night?

I didn't see it, was it good?
As for Springsteen/Joel confusion... I dunno, I always seem to lump them together even though they don't sound that much alike.
Poor Springsteen, though. Talk about a musician misued by politicians!

I have no idea why, but I also find that they occupy neighboring spaces in my association cortex.

Another one!!!! What is wrong with you people?
I'm done with TPM. In the immortal words of Desidero plagiarizing Douglass Adams, so long and thanks for all the fish. Next time you see me, I'll be Freddy Kruger.

Though I will be saddening to lose Genghis as we know him, I have no doubt that between your snarky abilities and Freddy's endless one-liners it will be far more entertaining than Desidero's "metamorphosis".

Destor, you have just publicly shamed yourself. Better hope this post doesn't hit the recommended list, or you're going to take some serious heat.

I thought it was interesting for two reasons. One is that Matthews was terribly serious the whole time which is odd because he'll say crazy shit on his own show frequently, but for some reason wanted to act demure on Colbert's pundit parody show. The other reason was that he nearly announced that he wants to run for Arlen Specter's US Senate seat.

And taking a look at the current reader submissions it seems like your scoop-policing abilities might be needer over the HuffPo "Screw 'em" story.

Hey DF, did you ever choose a Bill-o shirt?

There's something that I really like about the ninnyhammer/popinjay stuff, but I'm think I'm going to have to go with the "No Bloviating" shirt. I just can't escape the delicious irony of Bill O'Reilly telling people not to bloviate. As for the offsetting donation, I think I'm going to go with a donation to PFLAG because O'Reilly is always good for getting his pantyhose in a twist when PRIDE rolls around in SF (and how can you not like Dykes on Bikes, Bill?). Also, Dan Savage's recent column about the loss of his mother really hit home for me and that helped tip the scale. If you didn't catch it, it's a good read (but I'll warn you that it's rife with sincerity and absent his typical humor):
