I'm sure it's a fun joke and there's nothing wrong with unity. The two candidates seem to be getting along fine and they're both focused on a Democratic victory in the fall. Mr. McAuliffe was most likely outnumbered and very congenial, so he probably figured that there's nothing wrong with posing for a few pictures, knowing full well that they'd go viral.

The Obama sign is real, definitely not Photoshopped.
Same cannot be said for that smile on Terry's face. A real pro pasted that one on his face.

Beware the Cheshire Cat: McAuliffe is the main guy pushing the Clinton/Obama ticket. There's a new website up now, too, clamoring for attention from mainstream media (CNN's Blitzer has already fallen for it), and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if McAuliffe was behind the set-up of that website.
He's figuring Democrats are still pining for the "Dream Ticket" and that we'll be reminded of how good it felt months ago imagining such a ticket...with her on top, of course, and our beloved Barack as her trusty assistant.
Let's hope TPM and HuffPo and Politico and Slate and Kos, etc keep a very close eye on this ruse...

If you have a link to that website...
Right now, I'd say that we're pretty much guaranteed an unity ticket, with the only thing capable of trumping it would be if Sen. Obama were to push for Jim Webb and if he were to agree. I really don't see the party elders (or super-super delegates) allowing anything else to happen, especially since it sounds like Hillary's willing to take number two.

No UNITY ticket, today, tomorrow or forever.
I much prefer O'Donnell's outcome here:
