Stark Reminder from the Hearing
I apologise beforehand but there is no other way to say it: John McCain is so fucking clueless that it is scary.
Not only is he confused about Shias and Sunnis again but his view of the situation is so out of touch that Crocker seemed realistic. Petraeus seems a bit resigned, actually, and let it slip a couple times. He is just doing his job now.
I suspect that much will be made of "looking presidential" and I am sure many of us will have different views on the issue. I will leave it at saying that both of our Senators looked tired. Posturing seemed to be minimal, contrary to my expectation.
The hearings, overall, seemed quite ineffectual as is typical. Both Obama and Clinton had some good questions (I particularly liked trying to define "success") but I was also quite pleased with Levin and Bayh who, as reported, elicited some of the more realistic assessments from Petraeus.
I hope John McCain continues doing just what he is doing. Maybe we can finally drive a stake through the "stronger on national security" perception of the Republicans.

Anyone who criticizes Obama for saying, "Uh," now and then should listen to Crocker.

Who doesn't say "uh" every now and then. If he walked on water people would be bitching about that too. Whatever!
