Some People
Some people are voting for McCain just because he's a Republican.
Some people are voting for Obama just because he's half black.
Some people are voting for Hillary just because she's a woman.
Some people are voting for a Dem just because they want to bring an end to the situation in Iraq.
Some people are voting for a Republican just because they think we need to fight a war on terror.
Some people are voting for a Dem just because they want better health care for everyone.
Some people are voting for a Republican just because they feel Republicans share their values.
Some people aren't voting at all just because they don't care or they're pissed off.
Some people are voting because they care so much about their country and its future that they can't possibly sit this one out or make an uninformed decision, so they do their homework and make it a point to learn as much as they can, and they keep others informed as well, even to the point of being a pain in the ass about it.
It's those people I dig the most....even if they choose someone other than my chosen candidate.
Hey. At least they're doing their homework.

I oppose firing them off to the moon. We need their votes! When I did voter registration and Election Protection in PA in 2004, I saw quite a few sulky teenagers whose moms forced them to register, then dragged them to the polls. (They're 22 now. Hope they still live at home!) Can we afford to fire them off to nearby points of the solar system? Let's at least wait till after November ...

Right! Let all the people who vote for all those reasons, vote; but don't beat the bushes to get people to vote who don't care and who don't read and who don't inform themselves.
I am struck by all the people who have registered to vote for the first time because they feel inspired; they feel heard. That may include republicans, and so be it! But don't get people to the polls on busses who don't care and are just going to get a free sandwich.

I define a patriot as someone who gives a shit, doesn't matter about what, just that they do and they pay attention and do their best to choose wisely.
We don't have to agree, but perhaps a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T for our fellow 'give a shit'ers' might actually make a difference this time.
