The blog/comment form says you can insert html, but I've had no success with it. What's the deal with that? I tried to search for past cafe posts about it, but nothing came back.

I have tried to include an avatar but the site will not accept my jpg.

It wouldn't accept my avatar in tiff or png format, but finally did in jpg. Is your avatar smaller than the maximum width?

I've had the same problem with the avatar. I resaved the photo, tried again, and it worked. Don't know why, but it's worth a shot.

You're supposed to use the format buttons when constructing a blog and direct HTML when constructing a comment to a blog.

Why does the blog form say "you may insert html" then if you're supposed to only use the buttons?

huh, the bold tag worked but I tried an img tag after it and that failed.

Just like with Slashdot (since you mentioned it), many HTML commands don't work. Most (if not all) of the special characters work (e.g., ), but many of the tags do not work. I'm pretty sure that sup and sub don't work, and img definitely doesn't.
sup test: E=mc2
sub test: H2O
Additionally, I think it's safe to say you can write off font, span, h1-h5, etc. Basically, you got <b>, <i> or <em>, and <blockquote>. No <strike> or <s> for you!

I once saw embedded video in a Reader Blog. No kidding, it was Olberman's Ferraro rant, embedded from MSNBC plain as day.
I lifted the source html and tried it myself. No dice.
I want to know how that dude pulled it off.

You got me. Maybe he has connections at TPM? I've seen multiple people attempt the iframe/embed. I've never seen in succeed.

But Ben, you successfully used a superscript just the other day. Don't know how you did it, but it apparently can be done.

What the blog form means when it says "you can insert html code" is "you can only insert html code by pressing one of these format buttons."
Josh needs to get his money back.

slashdot.org is a well designed site and its code has always been open source. Josh should lift code from them to fix all of the poorly designed/functioning parts of this site.

They work in the comments, but not in the original blog. Weird.

Current software still sucks in most ways, compared to before.
