Sen. Clinton May Have Secured My Vote
Cross-Posted HERE.
I'm wavering in my support for Sen. Obama.
I've been leaning towards Barack Obama for a few months now. However, Sen. Clinton, in a speech today highlighting the importance of the Pennsylvania Primary on Tuesday, said the words that these ears have longed to hear:
"I didn't want to just show up and give one of these woop-de-doo speeches."
Now I'm on the fence.
Throughout this extended primary season, in which every imaginable group has been assiduously courted, there is one constituency that has been left unattended: the woop-de-damn-doers!
Although I have been generally impressed with Sen. Obama's attempts to elevate our political discourse, and inspire the electorate to transform divisions, Sen. Clinton has eviscerated these notions with one simple expression: "Woop-de-Doo".
Woop-de-doo, alternatively referred to as "whoop de doo" or "woop de freakin' do" if you're not into the whole brevity thing, is defined in the Urban Dictionary as:
I think Sen. Clinton is onto something here. This just might catch on.Sarcastic retort used in response to a comment that somebody has used to induce excitement or shock. Used with a sense of irony . . . the second party is expressing indifference or mild annoyance at the content of the comment made.
Also used when one has excitedly passed on a piece of relatively unenlightening information.
I'm already envisioning buttons: "Hillary 08: Woop De Doo!"
Or perhaps during her stump speeches, when she's trotting out the right-wing playbook, the crow could begin a chant: "Woop-de-Doo, Woop-de-Doo, Woop-de-Doo"!
How about:
"Hillary 08: Ready to put the Woop de in your Doo from Day One!!"
Maybe Hillary could sing a breathy rendition of "I Want to Be Loved by You" and incorporate the phrase: "Woop Woop de Doo"!!
This has endless potential; any suggestions?

Though Weaver says some ridiculous things, I don't think he counts as a troll per se. He has his own blog which he regularly publicizes. Whatever his point of view, he means it.
I'm not sure about Louisville either. Sometimes he says things that I think are sincere. Not that I agree with most of it and not that a lot of it is thoughtful or tactful, but I don't think that he's a bona fide troll.
April 20, 2008 6:10 AM | Reply | Permalink
I still don't get how that automatically exempts him.
Let me just say this - some of the worst, most pernicious trolls I know of have their own blogs where they say the same things they say while trolling.
They are still trolling this board. Just cause they have a blog is meaningless - there's no relation.
you're still hot, of course. ;)
April 20, 2008 11:31 AM | Reply | Permalink
I guess I'm just used to the old school USENET definition of a troll. Back then it was someone who was completely insincere and was basically just saying what they were saying to incite a flame war for their own amusement. I don't think that someone like Weaver falls into this category. I think the guy genuinely means what he says. I don't agree with the vast majority of it, but there's something uncomfortable to me about just calling someone a troll because I don't agree with their point of view.
Then again, this is the Internet and his blog and avatar could just be contrivances to deceive me into buying his sincerity. I'm so confused!

Now she's like everybody else who defended the Clintons once too long against her Republican friends. She feels burned and tired, and totally energized by Barack Obama. All snark aside, that is what you do when you have no reasoned arguement. It does serve to give permission to those voters who also don't have a sound reason not to vote for O; the Bunker vote.

Cute. Nice attack on Clinton's "woop-de-doo". The only thing is that you stated that so far you have been generally impressed with Obama's attempt to elevate the political discourse. I guess that means you didn't see all his complaining about the low level of ABC debate as deflection and damage control over his in ability to handle the kind of tough questions that will be coming his way from the GOP. I was impressed too. I was impressed by how badly he wilted.

First, it's beyond hypocrisy for the Clinton camp to accuse Sen. Obama of "complaining." Sen. Clinton has chosen to relentlessly attempt to shape the media narrative by doing just that; and that's her right. In fact, I would argue that her relentless complaints have been effective to the extent that the media seems to follow her cue.
Second, the argument that the tough questions will be "coming his way from the GOP" is the intellectual equivalent of my conversations with my mother when I was eight years old:
ME: Mom, can I do [fill in the blank]?
MOM: No
ME[Whining]: But . . . Timmy's mom let's him do [fill in the blank]
MOM: Then go live at Timmy's house
Maybe Hillary should just go live at Timmy's house.

Otto you just don't get it.
We have over $9 trillion dollars of public debt. $50 trillion when you add private debt. At the latest DAVOS conference the talk was about how to keep the US from falling into a major recession, if not worse, and bringing the rest of the world's economy down with it.
We're mired in two military quagmires overseas that we're borrowing $200 billion a year to finance. Our army and marines are on the verge of breakdown and have nothing to respond with if hostilities flare up elsewhere. With interest and care for our wounded it may well cost us $3 trillion over the 10 years.
We have almost $2 trillion dollars of infrastructure that needs rebuilding.
We have 47 million people without health insurance.
We have 2% of the world's oil reserves and use 25% of the world's oil. It is supplied by other nations that increasingly view us with suspicion and hostility.
Both ice caps are melting signaling great, possibly catastrophic climate change sooner than later scientists say.
We have a administration that has trashed the constitution, repeatedly broken our laws and int'l. law, while politicizing and crippling most of the federal government.
And you think this election is going to be about tough questions that will be coming his way from the GOP? Are you nuts or just a shallow fool?

Top 10 states by population from the 2000 census:
[1] California
[2] Texas
[3] New York
[4] Florida
[5] Illinois
[6] Pennsylvania
[7] Ohio
[8] Michigan
[9] New Jersey
[10] Georgia
Now, which state did Sen. Clinton win in the primary that she will win in the general [and Sen. Obama would lose]?
CA? TX? NY? NJ? The only state in which you can even make a reasonable argument for is OH.
Just for fun, here's the next 5:
[11] North Carolina
[12] Virginia
[13] Massachusetts
[14] Indiana
[15] Washington
Do you believe Sen. Obama will not win Massachusetts? Conversely, how do you think Sen. Clinton will do in the states won by Sen. Obama?
[16] Tennessee
[17] Missouri
[18] Wisconsin
[19] Maryland
[20] Arizona
Do you think Sen. Clinton will win TN or AZ? Conversely, what about the states won by Sen. Obama?
So, here's my final tally:
States won by Sen. Clinton in the primary that Sen. Clinton MIGHT win in the general & Sen. Obama MIGHT lose - [1] Ohio [2] New Jersey [remote, but possible]
States won by Sen. Obama in the primary that Sen. Obama MIGHT win in the general & Sen. Clinton MIGHT lose - [1] VA [2] WA [3] WI [4] MD [MI]

As to Obama spending more than Hillary -- since when has it been a negative to raise more money than your opponent? Oh, yeah! Every since Obama started raising millions more than Hillary by small donations as opposed to big spenders. Oh, well. Now we have gone full circle!

This just in on the "Whoop-dee-doo" issue! (Care of my wife, who never got out of her 1970s teen years, culturally.)
Do you remember who made that phrase a common retort in popular culture? Archie Bunker!
Remember?
Michael Stivic would be making a cogent argument, running rhetorical circles around Archie, leaving Archie flummoxed. So Archie would respond, "Well, whoop-dee-doo!"
Meat Head would continue arguing, making further points, further antagonizing the losing Archie, to which Archie would let fly, "Whoop-dee-doo, whoop-dee-doo, whoop-dee-doo, Meathead!"
So, now Hillary is adopting the Archie Bunker role to Obama's Meathead.

A pretty shrewd move on Hillary's part.
"Woop-de-do," along with "Yeehaw" and "WooHoo!" are exclamations that one would hear during any 1930s Mississippi lynching.
I'll say this for The Monster, she knows how to rally her supporters.

Talk of state's rights next, right?

Next debate, Bunker style:
Hillary: "One of us has not crossed the threshold. I'm not gonna say who it is, I'm just gonna look at the guilty person and whistle." (Rolling eyes at Obama and giving a nice, descending whistle.)
