The Pope is a wonderful example of a religious leader that holds views and says things that many of his followers don't agree with. Sound familiar? Yet those who disagree with him don't jump up and flee the Catholic church. This Pope, in fact, has said several things that if anyone else had said them, they would be "gaffes" or "hate speech." Yet people still sit in the pews, still take something positive from Catholicism, they even say outright that they don't agree with their leader. No one focuses on this, a worldwide religion with millions and millions of followers, but we can paralyze ourselves nitpicking one small church in Chicago with an outspoken leader. Wonder why that is, eh?
