OK, Rev. Wright is an Asshole

avatar

I think Barack Obama was pretty kind to the Rev in his speech on race that he gave in Philadelphia last month. How does he repay that? By proving to the world that he's not just batshit crazy, but he's also a narcissistic shithead of the highest order. I was willing before to give this guy the benefit of a doubt. Surely this guy must have done good work in his life, and in context maybe what he said isn't offensive, just a little spicy. He had an opportunity to show America he's not such a bad guy after all. Well he just came out and repeated all of the same crazy shit, and with attitude, like we are the assholes for not understanding why the government invented AIDS to kill black people. Congratulations. Slow Clap.. No one can give you the benefit of a doubt now. As I write this, Obama is rejecting and denouncing Wright, as he should. Unless this is some brilliant strategy where Wright is putting himself on the cross to allow Obama to completely sever all connection to him, Wright is indeed an asshole. Can other leaders of the black church please step up and tell Wright to crawl back under a rock and let Obama win this election? Can they also spend some time in public smoothing over the mess he made? Please?

Actually from an intellectual (elitist?) perspective, my first thought yesterday was that Wright was going over the top to give Obama room to completely distance himself and take the issue off the table.

Yeah, it crossed my mind, but that's a pretty risky gamble. There's no way to know how it would play out. If this is strategy, the sensible thing for him to do if he is going to show is face at all is to pop a muscle relaxer and talk like a normal person. Calmly explain the crazy things he said in the video, and speak only about positive things that all Americans can agree on.

. . . and maybe making some room for an insanity defense.

The basic theme is sound but the rhetoric is meaningless, and whatever Wright's aim maybe I do not believe he is stupid nor as arrogant as the news conference suggest.

In the recent passed many expressed similar thoughts about Bill Clinton. The answer for each may be the same, it is time to get off of the stage.

I would hold some dry powder on this for a while.

The only people who are sensationalizing Reverend Wright is the news media.

These days the news media is tabloid press for politics and the GOP model, which each network is copying now.

It's what 8 years of Bush leads to.

I thought he was someone for the Obama Campaign to celebrate.....I thought he was telling the the "truth" a couple months ago. Has something changed?

What I find is the race baiting be done here but because the person is black its not as bad. B Clinton was called on the carpet by many Obama supporters for saying things that COULD be considered racist- this stuff gets a pass or many just want it to go away.

In E KY there are many who are not racist but are offended by these comments and they are not satisfied by the "its a black thing: Most people here have nothing against blacks, They are not exposed to thier culture and in reality are struggling to survive themselves. They could care less about the color of someone skins. The only "racism" i see is that the people around here are just average people who get tick off when someone starts lecturing to them about how they are racist. They don't like being told that the AA community deserves this. I used to be big supporter of AA equality but this election season has made me realize that its not about equality. My husband made me see this. You see, for every complaint the black community gives about the circumstances they face, I can give you back with the people here in E Ky and they are mostly white yet we have no affirmative action for poor people. I graduated with several students who had 4.0 GPA's and scored in the top of the nation on the ACT and SAT but yet no ivory league colleges were handing out scholarships to them.

I was always for programs to help AA advance until I realized that is not about race but about poverty. I have been told by many people that racism will remain until people stop trying to lay blame. When everyone stops lecturing to others. My husband would be considered a racist by many of you dispite being friends with a couple of AAs but he is not, Just someone not school in the politics of race who just sees things differently. He, like many like him, can not understand why he is supposed to feel guilty when he did nothing to anyone. Once when he was driving over the road as a trucker he amde a wrong turn in chicago and went down the wrong street. The minute the people in the area seen he was white, they immediately starting yelling and flipping him off. Had he not been in an 80,000 lb rig they would have approach the truck. We were told by his company that a driver had gotten lost in the area and stopped to ask for directions. He was beaten to death. I know the same has happened to blacks but I am smart enough to realize that not everyone should be painted with the same brush. I will never judge someone by thier race but I also refuse be called a racist because I am not black.
