Obama's COUNTERPUNCH

avatar

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc9PepjyDow

1. Obama's response seems to turn this attack around to boomerang back on Clinton and McCain. Interestingly, this might just endear him to the working class which has been losing ground steadily for decades. The country is being bled dry and these workers are getting nowhere. And they are angry! Did Obama just "feel their pain"?  His counterpunch is formidable.

2. McCain / Hillary double-team = shame on her! She's not a Democrat anymore.

Yup, his response was a good one. But what i cant understand is why HRC jumped on this. What Obama said is true. Those folk are pissed. Seeing that she is casting herself as the middle class candidate, you would think she would have began talking along these lines weeks ago. This can backfire on both her and McCAin.

She jumped on this because she is trying to find something to attack Obama with, however this seems to be a big mistake.

Once again, its obvious that Obama posesses strategic sense that's orders of magnitude ahead of Clinton's. He's a step ahead of her at almost every moment, and she can't even learn to see them coming.

I think it's called reckless despair.

I love this clip and keep watching it over and over, enjoying the sight of a leader who cuts thru the crap and talks to us like adults. Check out the guys behind Obama, they get it too.

Obama isn't a fighter? He's looking like Ali with that ropeadope he just pulled on Hillary and McCaveman.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

Great analogy!

That was an amazing response. Obama the populist. If he keeps it up, he may even win the coveted John Edwards primary.

There's a guy in the background--he's wearing a red "USMC" t-shirt. He's the definition of the sort of voter Obama is trying to appeal to in Pennsylvania. You can see him sitting there, sort of sizing Obama up. He has kind of a scowl on his face, and you can see that he's not sure what to make of Obama. Even when he applauds for the first time, he never smiles. But when Obama mentions McCain and the home foreclosure crisis, the guy suddenly cracks a big smile and nods his head. You can see the, "This guy's alright" look on his face. This is what Obama does so well. He talks to people and convinces them that he's the real deal. He IS the real deal.

I saw that guy the first time but went back to check it out again. That guy and the guy behind him are folks I wouldn't expect to see at an Obama rally.
I hope Obama is the real deal. He's the realest we are going to get this time around.

You're right. Just at about the 2:30 you actually see him accept this man and his leadership. The lights come on and the warnings signs go down. He gets it. We all get it.

Hillary is recycling talking points from Sean Hannity!

Sean Hannity!

Yep, it's sure over Hillary. Over for you.

After embracing Scaife what's a little Sean Hannity?

I agree -- this may be the turning point in the campaign. I think it was a big mistake for Hillary -- but I am not sure she does understand or really feels these people with her heart. Barack GETS IT. I too was fascinated by watching the crowd behind him and how they started off quiet, then a few nods here and there, then more, then the standing ovation. I think they should plaster this clip all over the airways in PA and IN this weekend and take the fight right to Clinton. I also think Obama's political instincts are anything but naive and the Clinton camp has seriously underestimated him. I think he set up Bill before South Carolina and reeled him right in by challenging his legacy ever so subtly. I think he can turn this "gaffe" into a big win.

Obama's got mad ninja skillz, I tell you.

Snatch the pebble from your hand. Make you wonder if ever was a pebble there to begin with.

Rock on with your bad self, O.

Obama needs to pivot here. This is just the beginning. He needs to turn this into a larger, broader, "What's the Matter With Kansas?" message.

He needs to connect this back to his "Uniter" message by saying, "In order to unite America, we must end that which divides us. We must defeat those who would have us divided." This could be his central line of attack, not just against the Republicans, but against neo-conservatism starting with Reagan. This needs to be the beginning of the battle to retake the hill from the Reagan neoconmen.

Sample riff: "They tell you to blame the sinking economy on welfare queens, not on tax breaks for the wealthy. Blame immigrants, not trickle-down economics. Lost your job? Yeah, because of a buncha gay people in Massachussetts--I say bullcrap! This is a con job. This is the cynical rhetoric spouted by the cynical merchants of a cynical ideology. If we want economic justice, we have to fight for it. We need to battle organized money with the raw power of organized people. There is nothing those neocon hacks on the right fear more than millions of Americans standing up, demanding to be heard."

Spot on, abotron.

Amen!

Obama moves like Ali

But connects like Mike Tyson.

Bam!!!

Yes we Can!

Stings like a bee indeed

The Clinton/McCain right wing attack machine is failing. Obama has proven able to counteract their bullshit. Impressive.

Obama's Kenyan father left his white mother in his early childhood with no means of support and he is the elitist?

Obama worked to organize poor communities after Harvard Law School (and president of the law review) instead of taking a high paying job and he is elitist.

Did Hillary become blue collar at Wellesley or Yale Law School or the Rose Law Firm or while Bill was having sex with staffers in Little Rock or Washington?

I'm glad Obama knows how to fight back.

I'm glad Senator Obama knows a different way of fighting back - a way that doesn't look like fighting. There is way too much fighting in the world, and the convincing verbal repartee is exactly the mechanism to subvert the fighting.

Mr. Obama has been demonstrating this skill for months. And the voters seem to be figuring it out.

He throws it right back at ClintonMcBush

so, here’s what rich. Senator Clinton says ‘No, I don’t think that people are bitter in Pennsylvania. You know, I think Barack’s being condescending.’ John McCain says, ‘Oh, how could he say that? How could he say people are bitter? You know, he’s obviously out of touch with people.’

“Out of touch? Out of touch? I mean, John McCain—it took him three tries to finally figure out that the home foreclosure crisis was a problem and to come up with a plan for it, and he’s saying I’m out of touch? Senator Clinton voted for a credit card-sponsored bankruptcy bill that made it harder for people to get out of debt after taking money from the financial services companies, and she says I’m out of touch? No, I’m in touch. I know exactly what’s going on. I know what’s going on in Pennsylvania. I know what’s going on in Indiana. I know what’s going on in Illinois. People are fed-up. They’re angry and they’re frustrated and they’re bitter. And they want to see a change in Washington and that’s why I’m running for President of the United States of America.

Obama knows his judo, while Hillary is thinking boxing match, McCain is thinking kung-fu.

"while Bill was having sex with staffers in Little Rock or Washington?"

I agree with you eamseneneca, except for that sexist comment that adds nothing to your argument.

avatar

The only real deal about BHO is the one he got from Resco.

The only real deal about Hillary is the bulk one she got on those pantsuits.

avatar

Too stupid to even spell the man's name right. It's "Rezco", not "Resco"! And we see how bad that has hurt Obama . . . .

Obama is sympathetic and understanding. Unlike nearly every TV pundit, he was not being patronizing. He was responding to the condescending picture that the media is constantly painting of Pennsylvania, a picture initially created and fueled by Clinton goon James Carville's wisecracks. His point is that he understands why a variety of people are frustrated, distrustful and resentful. They should be! They've been ignored and ripped off and haven't been able to count on outside help (past administrations), so they're very protective of what remains of their own resources and their families and communities. Obama understands this. He's defending them! If Clinton and McCain aren't aware that people are bitter and angry about the sorry state of our Union, then they're is totally out of touch with human spirit.
"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." - George Orwell

At about 1:00, Barack looks that USMC guy directly in the eye and talks to him. You can see him shift in his seat just afterwards. Then, the wheels start spinning.

I'd wish the wheels would spin in your lethargic brain, Steve.

How many times can the Polico/ABC/Fox/Drudge/Rush play this "gotcha" bullshit with Obama before people get a heads up that the news is rigged?

McCain : "Tiger Woods", c-word at wife, serial adulterer, double-speak on every issue, and gets a huge pass

Obama: speaks intelligently, and gets parsed to death by the closet GOP media intent on twisting every phrase into a "gaffe". He didn't want his daughters to be punished with teenage pregnancy, and Fox&Co jumped. Called rustbelt voters bitter and they attack. Even his correct spelling of the word "flack" was a rightwing talking point.

Stop the madness!
