You know, this is a very good article, and I think that the Obama campaign should think about pressing for civics classes to be put back into the high school curriculum. (1) It's a great position for a Democrat to take, to reach out to flag-waiving Republicans and show them that Dems love America too. (2) It's especially important for Obama to come out with this position, because he is perceived as unpatriotic and "foreign". And (3) people around the country should be taught what this country is *really* about, not just the sound bytes from presidential campaigns and Rush Limbaugh.

I couldn't agree with you more.
As a reporter, , I've seen where people don't attend local municipal meetings or they don't follow state legislature issues. I know I know - I'm a news junkie, and lots of folks simply don't have the time to follow these issues. But instead of the people in the press trying to find ways for people to participate, we end up, much of the time, turning issues - local as well as national - into he said/he said/she said/she said...
As Mr. Dreyfuss stated last night, there is no THEM in this country. It is all of us. It is WE THE PEOPLE, including the press. And it is up to all of us to hold each of us accountable and to take the responsibility for keeping our republic going.
