No flag pin questions for Hillary?

avatar

Did anybody notice that Hillary Clinton did not wear a flag pin last night and has not worn one consistently? If this is the badge of patriotism as the silly questions of late seem to indicate, why does she not get questionned on this? Why is this treatment reserved for Obama? Oooh wait... I think it's because the Liberal media supports Obama so they rerserve all the silly shenanigans for him and him alone.

It's a double standard for the pants suit. She is allowed unfettered lapel but I demand an explanation of why she doesn't wear a flag scarf. She wore a shamrock scarf on St. Patty's Day. She should be wearing a flag scarf every other day.

Its because Obama made it an issue. He decided to not wear the pin after 9/11.

"You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin," Obama said. "Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest.

"Instead," he said, "I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism."

All he had to say was something like sometimes I wear a pin sometimes I don't. He wanted to make some big deal statement by not wearing a flag pin. So it became an issue. A silly issue he precipitated.

Standing up for faux patriotism, the last last refuge of the scoundrel. You're such a stand-up individual.

I'm not standing up for anything. I said its a silly issue. But it didn't come out of the blue. Obama made it an issue. He decided to make a point about patriotism by not wearing and announcing he wasn't going to wear a pin. He decided to send a message by not wearing a flag pin. He decided it was an issue. That's where the silliness started.

It sounds to me like he thought that all of the vicious "patriotism" after 9/11 was the issue. You know who else thought the same thing? A lot of honest, reasonable people. Perhaps you recall this remark by Dan Rather:

"It is an obscene comparison - you know I am not sure I like it - but you know there was a time in South Africa that people would put flaming tyres around people's necks if they dissented. And in some ways the fear is that you will be necklaced here, you will have a flaming tyre of lack of patriotism put around your neck. Now it is that fear that keeps journalists from asking the toughest of the tough questions, and to continue to bore in on the tough questions so often. And again, I am humbled to say, I do not except myself from this criticism."

See, it's not the flag or the pin that's the issue, now or then. It's the phoney, disgusting "patriotism" that he made an issue out of. So, is that a silly issue?
