Why? Because Hillary's just done a good counter-response. No, actually because Hillary is basically doing all the dirty work for McCain. He doesn't need to make thorough attacks against Obama: Hillary's doing them for him. He doesn't need to campaign: Hillary's doing it for him:

“I think that since we now know Sen. (John) McCain will be the nominee
for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in
this election. We all know that. And I think it’s imperative that each
of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief
threshold.”

“I believe that I’ve done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that
and you’ll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy.”

“I think that I have a lifetime of experience that I will bring to the
White House. Sen. John McCain has a lifetime of experience that he’d
bring to the White House. And Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.”
